I know, two posts in one day… the thing is that my computer is at the office, and I’m mostly here on Tuesdays, so things tend to pile up a bit. I finished this one up a bit ago. It was just a quick rebellion as I’ve been trying to finish up all UFO’s, and then one day I just wanted to do something different.
It’s just one of those that accidently came together rather quickly, and I love it! I love the colors and shapes and everything all together. I think I can say this without being braggy, because there are quite a few quilts I make that I don’t love. Usually they’re ok, I don’t often dislike them, but it’s only once in a while that I LOVE one. I never really know when it will happen either!
This photo shows off the fun of adding a bit of texture through different fabric types. A bit of flannel, or linen, just makes a quilt more special and interesting. It helps give it that added dimension that gives it life!
And here’s one quick little photo tip: Use PicMonkey to lighten up your photo! Now nothing’s gonna fix it if it’s totally blurry, but providing it has decent sharpness to it, but it’s just too dark, here what you do.
Here’s my original photo. Too dark, but totally fixable.
1. Go to PicMonkey
2. Click on Edit a Photo, and upload the photo you want.
3.Now choose Exposure from the left hand menu.
4.Slide the little ‘Brightness’ and ‘Highlights’ buttons to the right till you get your desired lightness.
5.Be careful not to take it too far or your photo will be washed out.
6.Then go to ‘Colors’ – it’s just under ‘Exposure’. Up the ‘Saturation’ just a teeny bit, and also warm the photo up a bit too by sliding the ‘Temperature’ button to the right.
Now save your photo and you’re off!
You can play around with SO many things on PicMonkey, (including cropping your photo, which I also did here, it’s a very important step!) there’s piles more stuff you can do to make your pictures pop abit more. Go try it out, it’s a very simple program!
Oh, I just bought over a yard of that lovely flannel rose print you have in the quilt. My daughter doesn't really need another blanket, so I may have to add it to a quilt!
beautiful!!! i love this quilt – the lines are great, too. have any tips for straight line quilting?? without puckers? is it more of a basting issue? i use picmonkey all the time, it's so great!!
Absolutely love it!! Especially that script fabric in the second shot, just stunning. Already been to check out the photo editing tip and it rocks!! Thank you

Wow. your quilts are so inspiring. Thank-you
I love this quilt, too. I use PicMonkey a lot, but maybe need to lighten up my pictures even more. I am glad you explained this is how you do it. I've always thought your pictures have a soft, romantic look to them that is just lovely!
Thanks for the tip on PicMonkey. I've never heard of it!
I have a question for you: do you usually straight line quilt your geometric type quilts? I have heard others say that for a quilt with a lot of straight edged blocks, that you should quilt it with curves and vice versa. Don't know how I feel about that, but I definitely like the look of your quilting on this one!
One of the reasons why I love quilting so much, is because of how tangible it is. I love how you said that different fabrics give the piece life. It is so true, and I think that is why I love it so much. I'm still learning, so I'm sort of nervous about just throwing different fabrics together, but hearing you say that is awesome. I guess we just need to let go and do it!
Beautiful! Thanks for the photo editing tips!
