Quilt top and binding: 1/2 yard bundle of Chicopee by Denyse Schmidt
Backing: Grey Hope Valley Print and Heath by Alexander Henry
Pattern: Broken Arrows by Charlotte Dumesney
I saw this quilt pattern on Flickr and loved it! I left a comment wondering how I would ever find this magazine in Canada (it’s printed and distributed in Australia and I couldn’t seem to find it online). A very kind lady offered to send me one. I paid her for it, but I so appreciated her taking the time to send it to me! The generosity of every quilter I have met online continues to amaze me. For that reason, I’d like to pass this magazine on to one of you.
I will mention that I don’t recommend this pattern for a beginning quilter. It doesn’t seem like a complicated design, but it’s a lot of strips to sew together, and for some reason I found it slightly challenging. Therefore I’d label it an intermediate pattern. Anyone who has made a handful of quilts will be fine with it, of course.
I’d like to send it to someone else who is also interested in making this quilt. Of course, I won’t demand that you end up making it :), but I’d really like to help the person who also wants to make this pattern.
If you’re out there, just comment on this post. The first person that says they really do pretty please want this magazine because they want to try their hand at making a quilt with this pattern, will get it!
Edited to add: The magazine has found a new home. I’m so sorry that I don’t have one to give each of you! I didn’t realize how many of you would like to make this pattern…
Here’s a bit more info about the magazine to hopefully help you find it. It’s Quilter’s Companion:Modern Quilts Volume1. I think it’s the first in their new line of ‘Modern Quilts’ line of magazines. I can’t find any dates on the magazine. The cover photo is a triangle quilt in grays and primary colors.
Here’s a link to one shop that seems to have it for sale (it’s in Australia)

Adrianne @ On the Windy Side says
Oooh, just pipped by Rachel! She was actually one of the first people that made me think "holy crap the online quilting community is awesome!", so you I'm going to add my own pretty please in support of her.
Your version of this quilt is gorgeous – the arrow motif works so well with the zingy colours of Chicopee. I'm always amazed at how great the sewing community is too – nice to you to keep spreading the love 🙂

Maybe I should add that I was so excited to see you were giving it away, I didn't finish reading your post, I thought it was a draw, otherwise I would have begged a bit more 😉 And I agree, the quilting community is so incredibly generous!

I super duper want to make this quilt for my son! A good boy pattern is so hard to find. I used to tease my son that when he was little as soon as he got off the school bus that you wouldn't see him for hours except every now and then you would see the top of his BB gun go bouncing by the window. He absolutely loves to hunt still and he is now 19 years old. I just bought a fat quarter bundle of Indian Summer and this would be the perfect pattern for this fabric!
Jolene says
I added some info to my blog post on where you might be able to find this pattern. Hope that helps you.

This turned out fantastic. It popped up on my Pinterest feed and I thought is was lovely. I'm not surprised that it's more difficult than it looks. I was squinting and tilting my head to try and figure it out but couldn't. And I'm usually pretty good at backwards engineering 🙂

Hi Jolene,
I love your blog and this quilt is fabulous!!! Since others have asked for the "pretty please" can you post the information about the pattern? That would be awesome. Keep up the good work. Your 'Single Girl' quilt is my absolute favorite of all the Single Girl quilts I have seen!! Or as you spell in Canada, 'favourite'….thanks!!
Jolene says
Hi Jude! I did post some info on a store that seems to be selling this magazine. Thanks for your kind words! It is favourite in Canada, but I sometimes forget to spell it that way!

Hey Jolene, is this the Nov-Dec 12 issue? Does it have a colorful spinning pinwheel quilt on the cover? And on the upper left hand corner does it say Learn Quilt as you go with Adri Van De Zel? I am hoping that I may have found it on Zinio..
Thanks!
Jolene says
That doesn't sound quite right, Terri 🙁 I updated my blog post with some more info.
