Quilt top and binding: 1/2 yard bundle of Chicopee by Denyse Schmidt
Backing: Grey Hope Valley Print and Heath by Alexander Henry
Pattern: Broken Arrows by Charlotte Dumesney
I saw this quilt pattern on Flickr and loved it! I left a comment wondering how I would ever find this magazine in Canada (it’s printed and distributed in Australia and I couldn’t seem to find it online). A very kind lady offered to send me one. I paid her for it, but I so appreciated her taking the time to send it to me! The generosity of every quilter I have met online continues to amaze me. For that reason, I’d like to pass this magazine on to one of you.
I will mention that I don’t recommend this pattern for a beginning quilter. It doesn’t seem like a complicated design, but it’s a lot of strips to sew together, and for some reason I found it slightly challenging. Therefore I’d label it an intermediate pattern. Anyone who has made a handful of quilts will be fine with it, of course.
I’d like to send it to someone else who is also interested in making this quilt. Of course, I won’t demand that you end up making it :), but I’d really like to help the person who also wants to make this pattern.
If you’re out there, just comment on this post. The first person that says they really do pretty please want this magazine because they want to try their hand at making a quilt with this pattern, will get it!
Edited to add: The magazine has found a new home. I’m so sorry that I don’t have one to give each of you! I didn’t realize how many of you would like to make this pattern…
Here’s a bit more info about the magazine to hopefully help you find it. It’s Quilter’s Companion:Modern Quilts Volume1. I think it’s the first in their new line of ‘Modern Quilts’ line of magazines. I can’t find any dates on the magazine. The cover photo is a triangle quilt in grays and primary colors.
Here’s a link to one shop that seems to have it for sale (it’s in Australia)
I love this quilt! I have run into a couple of patterns that I just never did find. Glad you found someone to help.
I like the movement the arrows bring and also you fabric choices.
Oh, that's such a fun quilt! I love it! Great back, too!
Ooh, I've been admiring it on Flickr too and wondering how to get my hands on the pattern! Love your version!
Ooh, I forgot to add pretty please!
It's yours Rachel! I'll contact you for your address.
Oh hooray!! Thank you so much Jolene!! Doing a happy dance! So excited! I just found the original quilt on Flickr on the weekend and added it to my favourites! I was searching for an arrow quilt!! And funnily, Catherine (CatandVee) is in my DoGoodStitches group 🙂
Oooh, just pipped by Rachel! She was actually one of the first people that made me think "holy crap the online quilting community is awesome!", so you I'm going to add my own pretty please in support of her.
Your version of this quilt is gorgeous – the arrow motif works so well with the zingy colours of Chicopee. I'm always amazed at how great the sewing community is too – nice to you to keep spreading the love 🙂
The kindness of quilters/bloggers never ceases to amaze me either, how kind and generous of you! Great quilt too.
Maybe I should add that I was so excited to see you were giving it away, I didn't finish reading your post, I thought it was a draw, otherwise I would have begged a bit more 😉 And I agree, the quilting community is so incredibly generous!
This is a fabulous quilt! I love your fabric choices. Now I'm off to search for a way to get my hands on this pattern…
this is lovely. I want to make it, but the challenge of sorting out how is part of the fun!
Aw shoot, looks like I won't be the first to "pretty please" for this pattern but it's absolutely lovely!!
Your quilt is so pretty front and back.

Oh wow, I love it! I have a fat quarter bundle of Chicopee waiting to be made into something.
Oh, what a powerful design and I love your fabric choice with the giant grey arrow.I just checked on-line if this pattern is for sale – no luck. I would love to make this quilt. You have a gift putting fabrics together. Heath by A.H. always works. Beautiful! Thanks Charlotte for a great pattern.
I love this quilt! I'd love to make one in blues and oranges and greens! I think it would be a perfect little boy quilt too
What a gorgeous job you did on this!!! 🙂
i loved the original quilt when i first saw it but love your fabric choice even more – now i would really like to make my own!
I love this quilt and would love to make one from the pattern.
I super duper want to make this quilt for my son! A good boy pattern is so hard to find. I used to tease my son that when he was little as soon as he got off the school bus that you wouldn't see him for hours except every now and then you would see the top of his BB gun go bouncing by the window. He absolutely loves to hunt still and he is now 19 years old. I just bought a fat quarter bundle of Indian Summer and this would be the perfect pattern for this fabric!
I added some info to my blog post on where you might be able to find this pattern. Hope that helps you.
That could be me. I like the pattern. You're quilt looks fantastic. I like the colours.
I am by no means the first, but I wanted to tell you how lovely your quilt is just the same ; )
I love your quilts! This arrow quilt is nice, nice, nice!
This design is so clever! Including some different pieces makes it look so awesome. And of course your fabric selection makes it so much better. Love it!
This arrow quilt is beautiful!!!! the colours, the design… congratulations!
Gorgeous quilt and how very kind people are! Xo
it's beautiful Jolene, I just clicked through from Flickr. I sent you the magazine! – I am so very thrilled that you have made a quilt from it, that's just awesome! And how kind you are to send it on to someone else, that's so lovely and thoughtful of you. Cat x
This turned out fantastic. It popped up on my Pinterest feed and I thought is was lovely. I'm not surprised that it's more difficult than it looks. I was squinting and tilting my head to try and figure it out but couldn't. And I'm usually pretty good at backwards engineering 🙂
Beautiful! I have such a hard time finding interesting "guys" quilt patterns.

It is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Hi Jolene,
I love your blog and this quilt is fabulous!!! Since others have asked for the "pretty please" can you post the information about the pattern? That would be awesome. Keep up the good work. Your 'Single Girl' quilt is my absolute favorite of all the Single Girl quilts I have seen!! Or as you spell in Canada, 'favourite'….thanks!!
Hi Jude! I did post some info on a store that seems to be selling this magazine. Thanks for your kind words! It is favourite in Canada, but I sometimes forget to spell it that way!
Hey Jolene, is this the Nov-Dec 12 issue? Does it have a colorful spinning pinwheel quilt on the cover? And on the upper left hand corner does it say Learn Quilt as you go with Adri Van De Zel? I am hoping that I may have found it on Zinio..
Thanks!
That doesn't sound quite right, Terri 🙁 I updated my blog post with some more info.
Wow, clicked on your link up there and had it in my cart and ready to go until the International Shipping Rate popped up at $45! I'm not sure if I want to pay that much for it just yet 🙁 I'm saddened…
You're so right! Quilters community is always very helpful. I adore this pattern, it's simple, but so interesting!
How wonderful that the kindness of quilters is paid forward here today. You hit the target with this quilt.
Lovely quilt!!
And, yay, for once it's us on Australia that have access to the pattern (usually it's us who have to pay the high postage prices to get them sent over!). I have just purchased a copy, thank you Jolene.
Wow I love your version. I am so happy to see it made, its the first one ive seen since I designed it, your fabric choices are really great. Ive been trying to comment from my ipad which has not worked, finally got on a computer today. Wow so great to see all the love for my pattern. This would be wonderful if you could find more copies of this pattern! Obviously we're all crazy about your design!
Where can u find the pattern?
That first photo is stunning! I love how the ridges on the metal wall echo the design of the quilt.
Love this pattern! And your version is stunning. Hope I can find the magazine tourchaseonline! Thanksfor sharing.
WOW that went fast! I just got the post today. Maybe I'll try to do my own pattern since I didn't win!
My friend and I are going to make the arrow quilt. I love the colors and can't wait to get started. We got online and found the pattern in Australia, and found all the fabrics online as well. Thanks for the beautiful photos.
I love this quilt! And even better – I have the magazine!!!!
Can you share?
What color Heath by Alexander Henry did you use on the back? The Metal color looks too light and the Black color looks too dark!
Has anyone found this pattern anywhere else that they can share?
I have the magazine. It's really quite a good one. I paid a bit to get it, but if someone wants to buy it, let me know. Thanks.
