Pardon all the photos, there are so many fabrics in here that I wanted to show you!
If you should want to make a quilt like this….
Nine patch squares are cut to 2.5″. When all nine squares sewn together, your nine patch unit should measure 6.5″
For your corner pieces, alas I can’t remember the exact size I cut them. I like to make them bigger rather than the exact right size because I’d rather not have the points of my nine patches get lost in a seam. I’ll give you a measurement that I think is right, but definitely try cutting and making one block to see if it seems right. for you. Then you can adjust making these squares a bit bigger or smaller to suit yourself.
So for your corner pieces, cut 2 squares that are 5.75″. Cut them in half on the diagonal. You should now have four corners to sew on your nine patch. Sew two opposing sides on, press and sew the other two. here is where you’ll see if you like how this goes together. Bigger corners and the nine patch will ‘float’ in the background. Smaller corners and the nine patch will go almost up to the edge. You just want to make sure it’s at least 1/4″ in from the edge.
I got this one professionally long arm quilted. And the backing is a brushed woven fabric, almost like a flannel. I love how this adds softness to the quilt! It’s about 59″x69″.
This one is for sale in my shop.

Always a treat to see your photos. I learn new things about color when I explore your work. A fall quilt has been on my list. Even ass I’m looking at snow out my window, this reads cozy. I may take a rack at this one. Thanks for sharing it with us.

OK. So I did buy the quilt. I can’t wait to get it in the mail. I’m so excited! I almost never post anything online, and even though I know that I may be crushed with what used to be quaintly called “flaming” on the internet (yes I know that really shows my age), I thought I would share my struggle over buying it. I’ve never bought a quilt for myself before, although I buy (lots of, too much) fabric. Every time I’ve ever fallen crazy in love with a quilt that another quilter has posted on her blog, I’ve haggled with myself: I don’t need to BUY a quilt. I can just make one for myself–and Jolene has even generously given instructions for how to make this very same quilt if I want it so badly. I don’t even deceive myself that I want to support her business. I do want very much to support her ART though, and in my opinion, this quilt is the culmination of ten years of development of Jolene’s art that I’ve watched all these ten years with so much pleasure. I buy fabric that I love, just because I love it, with no project in mind, and when I do, I consider that I’m buying my idea of art just like people buy pictures to hang on their walls because they love them. So what is the big deal about buying a quilt for myself that I simply love and yearn to have? I rarely buy clothes for myself that I’m crazy in love with–but I would if I wanted to badly enough. So I stopped haggling with myself and RUSHED to her shop and lucky me, the quilt was still there, and I bought it without stopping to agonize any further whether I should or not. I haven’t regretted it one second. I’m so proud to own this quilt. I feel so grateful that I got to buy it–even if it means going on a fabric diet for a long time (that will be me!) Thank you Jolene for this beautiful, inspiring quilt. It truly glows. I will treasure it and use it for my own self.

I love everything about this quilt even though your colors are darker and more muted than what I typically buy. I was inspired to try to make a block or two with your easy instructions for the on-point settings, but found I couldn’t stop and now I have 10+ blocks!

Jolene, I have been reading your blog for years, and I LOVE your exquisite quilts. I don’t know how you manage to keep coming up with such beautiful combinations of colors and design, and they all seem to be made with the softest of fabrics : ) I would love to have your stash to pull from! Thank you for sharing yet another gorgeous, perfectly designed quilt.
