I do have such a weakness for little houses. Especially in winter, the coziness of lights shining out of windows just captivates me. So I’m feeling the desire to make another house quilt.
Last winter I made my Sunset town quilt, which I loved making. That pattern is a contender again for sure. I think I’d like to try a version making the windows slightly smaller to mimic the quilt below which is just beyond charming but doesn’t have a pattern.
This quilt is made by @red_alfreda on Instagram and is beyond charming and inspiring to me. I’ve been doodling around with measurements to make houses exactly like this, but then I thought maybe I should just use my Ghost Town Pattern and make the windows a bit smaller to get a similar look.
To buy the Ghost Town Quilt pattern, go to @oldredbarnco on Instagram and then click the link in her profile which gives you the option to buy the pattern.
So that’s one option. Then, I also own the following pattern which I’ve always wanted to make. Obviously I’d make it in very different colors, but the variety of different houses looks like fun to put together!
And then there’s one more option of tiny houses that are beyond cute! I’m just not sure if I feel like paper piecing or working with such fiddly little pieces, but the quilts one could make from this pattern!! and also it would use up small scraps so is definitely a contender!

Here again is my Sunset Towns Quilt. I so enjoyed making this one…
And then a couple days pause between writing all the above…. and here I’ve got couple house blocks made!
I took my Ghost Town Pattern and modified the window size and then added sky above and on the sides as well as a strip of grass. So far I’m liking my little English Village!

Houses showed up in so many of my quilts this year and they are on my list to explore more in 2024. I love the colors you are using in the new blocks and that Sunset Town Quilt is stunning.

I love love LOVE house quilts, and of course all of your ideas for them! I just finished making one with fabric from my friend’s never-ending, old and unloved fabric bin. The house block is very similar to the paper pieced house by jeannekes, but uses acrylic templates instead (and they are also available on Etsy – Sewingthegoodlife. Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt again and your newest project. You always inspire me.

So cute! I’ve never made a house quilt. I think I would like to make one. As always, your color and fabric pattern choices make for a lovely quilt. Thank you for sharing.

What I like about the red_alfreda quilt is she adds the flower garden out front of each house and that brings in so much more possibility for colour and pattern. Your sunset quilt is designed for twilight colours, so a garden or yard does not factor. With your choice of adding grass as possible border it allows for different colours to play against your choices above. This will be fun to watch develop.
