Time for a finished quilt, don’t you think? I mean, there’s been a lot of finished quilts around here, but they were all for my book. Now in between times I’m finishing up a few quilts that are just for so.
This one was born out of a challenge that I did together with some friends. We chose one fabric line and all are making a quilt in the pattern of our choice. Dawn on the Prairie was the fabric line that was finally decided on, after many votes and deliberations!
And I decided to use the Cabin Nights pattern. Only now as I type this do I realize the perfect pairing of these two names! Dawn on the Prairie and Cabin Nights! Well, that was fitting. Anyways, this pattern caught my attention and I’ve known for awhile I wanted to make it.
Using just one fabric collection is outside my comfort zone, since I usually work from my random stash. So I decided to order one charm pack of this collection, plus half yards of a few favorite prints. Then I would substitute the rest from my stash by using closely matching fabrics that would stay with the spirit of the fabric collection.
I really love the look of this pattern. Be warned, it’s a lot of small triangles! But I do think it’s worth it.
I have also fallen in love with the selvedge labels I’ve been seeing on Instagram. I plan to talk more about them in a future post, but here’s my first little try with a selvedge as part of the label. I love the idea of adding a more special label to quilts, and I really will strive to do better with this in the future. I’m guilty of neglecting this because once the quilts are complete, I’m usually on to the next project already!
The backing is a flannel sheet in a natural color. Love how cozy it is! And I got this one long arm quilted in a beautiful swirl design. Also, the little floral you see in this last photo is my favorite from this fabric line.
After making 16 blocks, I was ready for a break from tiny triangles, but I don’t especially like square quilts, so I added an extra strip of the background fabrics to the top and bottom and ended up with a rectangular quilt.
Batting is Hobbs 80/20
Haven’t quite decided if this will be a gift or available in my shop.

The quilt is beautiful and especially the touch of pink. I love how you have created a label using the salvage!
I’m impatiently waiting the arrival of your book. I keep watching the tracking and I see that it’s very close to being delivered. 😁 Soon!

I am curious, your quilts always have a particular fabric vibe. It would be nice to know the collections or designers you favor. I don’t pick fabrics like the ones you use…..so I could use some help to maybe find fabrics with your vibe for a quilt I would like to make. Love your choices! I cannot wait for your book.

Barbara,
Jolene has a great post on her fabric stash. You could do a search, or click on the sidebar button “choosing fabric” and then the post called “The Secrets of My Fabric Stash”
Your comment reminded me of the post and I just enjoyed a little reread of it:)

Thank you! I will check it out.
