So after this triangle quilt, i decided to write a pattern for it. I made this one as my first try at the lap size version. And then I had to tweak the layout some more, and made another one. And another one. Then decided that I most likely would not make this into a pattern after all.
Why not? To make a long story short, too many reasons why it did not make very good first pattern. Besides that, I’d always rather make more quilts than write a pattern!
I think I will write a pattern one of these days. I feel it in there, but maybe not just yet… Meanwhile, I do really like this quilt. (did love this quilt I should say, it’s already found a new home).
The colors were inspired by this piece of art, which I adore. And I found these colors really hard to photograph, btw. I think the second photo is the closest to how it really looks, colorwise.
I love this! What is the background fabric?
I love this quilt too!! The colors, design, and fabrics are perfect!!
Good for you for doing what you really want…it must have been tough to say goodbye to this one – it's stunning.
Great design, I love to see all the new patterns people are coming up with, I love to quilt with bright colors sometimes contrasting them with black even for baby quilts. People thought I was nuts when I first starting making them with black until they saw how it makes the other colors pop where white or cream made the colors paler looking. I so wish I could win the ebook so I can learn some more.
It's just gorgeous but I understand the reluctance to write a pattern. I'm looking at my first pattern and I'm having trouble with getting started… It's a lot of work and less fun than actually making a quilt. 🙂
Your post reminds me of that Kenny Rogers song from the Gambler: You have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.
I'm glad you listened to your ♥.
I just love this quilt….I'd like to make one….Baby in the family….due in about a month….Any chance you can briefly explain the technique? I so appreciate your gorgeous designs and color/fabric choices….Makes my heart sing….even in this dreary NW winter….Thanks!
Susan
Oh gosh! this is beautiful! I hope someday you do write that pattern! 😉
Love it.
Jolene it is a very beautiful quilt.
As usual, I love everything you do. I'm sure I'll try to figure this one out as I am always so inspired by your work! Always look forward to your posts!
Thanks!
It's beautiful. I adore the colors.
Another beauty! You make everything so beautiful
I feel like I have a little bit of pattern writing in me as well. But I never want to dedicated my limited free time to that task. You've said it well.
This is a beautiful quilt. The artwork you linked to is also fantastic.
I adore your quilts, they always come so perfectly. I admit that I need to encourage my self to make a such beautiful quilt like this.. 🙂
Very nice & modern I love the binding you used. It really brings the colors of the quilt out. conn_and_vans_mom(at)yahoo(dot)com

I like your idea of using basic traditional blocks and tweaking them. i like traditional too, but dont really want to do the same thing everyone has done for years.
It is quite difficult to write a patterns when triangles like this are involved. Great quilt and concept.
I am loving the binding print. I pay closed attention to it just now and it is blue and white strips. Love your dark and light contrast… How's your {Single Girl}? 🙂
I have been in love with this quilt since I saw your first field of triangles quilt … I would have loved a pattern, but I understand your choice not to write it — I hope you won't mind if I make a copycat quilt!! (While crediting you for the inspiration of course!)
Love, love, love this quilt!
I love the simplicity of this quilt, very nice….
Beautiful!! Such a cool design!
Ha, you crack me up!
So pretty! I always love the back of your quilts as well! You pick the best colors ever!!!!
Love, love, love this quilt!
Love this. The different background shades and stripes with that same dark grey made into triangles as well. Love.
