After about a year!!! this quilt is finished! The hand quilting took the longest, but with the help of my mom, aunties, grandmas, and friends, we got ‘er done! My mom designed, and my grandpa made a large quilt frame which we set up in my basement to quilt it.
The back is made from a crazy assortment of flannel pieces that I had laying around. This rust and aqua rose flannel by Anna Maria Horner is one of my all time fave prints, so I included a big chunk of that.
Hopefully I’ll get some better head on photos yet, it’s just kinda hard to hold up such a huge quilt! (I think it’s around 90″ square.
and then on a completely different topic, i wanted to send out a little ‘thank-you’ again, to everyone who takes the time to leave comments on my blog. (and if you wondered where I disappeared to and didn’t reply to you, we were visiting family overseas and just returned)
i chose two winners from my previous granny square post, and you will each receive a book and a fabric stack if you wish!
i’ll list your names here, so please contact me with your address if it’s you. after a week or so, i’ll pick a new winner if i don’t hear from you.
i’ve decided that i want these little gifts to be a thank you for taking the time and effort to comment, and also for those of you who visit and read this dry quilty monologue regularly, so that’s why i’m conducting a giveaway in this strange way:)
so here’s the winning names:
pandchintz
Lisa
contact me if you’re one of these names and would like to receive a bundle!

Could you say what brand/color the solid is for your swoon quilt? Thank you,
Tennjenny says
I was struck by the background, too, Gabrielle. I think the first thing I thought was, "Note to self: Get some darker whites for background." Ha!
Jolene says
I'm quite sure it is Kona Bone, although I can't be certain…it was a long time ago when I started this quilt!
Sewn With Grace says

Your quilt is beautiful! I can't believe you hand quilted it. Machine quilting my Swoon took forever. I love how warm and inviting your photos always look.

Wonderful way to do a giveaway! You are not as 'dry' as you might think you are! I love the way you explain about your process, the ups & downs, and realities of quilting. Beautiful finish and one sure to have lots of memories.:)

Your Swoon quilt is really pretty. I too had recently finished one and you're right, it is extremely hard to get a good photo! But I loved how it turned out.

Well, that will teach me not to comment just because I was busy!! lol. Beautiful quilt, and a very sweet and generous give-away.

I would love to see pics of the quilting frame. My dad built me a small one. Beautiful choices of fabrics! Mine is finally all cut out 1.5 blocks pieced. I have done 5 other projects with the swoon blocks including a wedding quilt for my sister. Sigh. Someday.

I just bought the Swoon pattern a couple weeks ago and have been trying to decide what fabrics to make it with. Yours is very lovely!

I'm totally impressed that you hand quilted it. Beyond that, it is a seriously stunning quilt! I made a swoon quilt with just four blocks. So high-five for making the queen size (or larger)! Very well done.

I'm still in the midst of the swoon wave having just purchased it but uni has just started back so it might sit untouched for a while yet. Thanks for sharing yours.

So nice to see it finally finished, its really lovely. I think the longer it takes to make the happier you'll be with it, as you took your time and didnt rush it. I feel that way about my Dredsen quilt that took the best part of a year to finish too. What batting did you use?
Tammy says
Absolutely lovely quilt. I know that was a ton of hard work to make and hand quilt that.
Nita says
I've admired all the swoom quilts that have been going the rounds the last year or so. Yours is lovely. I like the old fashioned look of it.

Hi, I'm a new follower as I've not long started patchwork/quilting. I don't think your blog is 'dry' at all – it's inspirational and your latest quilt is just beautiful 🙂
Franziska says
I like the pictures of your swoon quilt. I wish I could say that mine is liing on our bed but it isn't (because unfinished). I chose a bright white background but your quilt makes me wish I had chosen another white. You handquilted it? I'm determined to quilt mine at home (maybe with my sewing machine) but still don't know which pattern to use.
I like your giveaways. That's really to say thank you for those who comment. Not to those who just comment because you have a giveaway… It makes me happy although I didn't win. You did it before and already then I thought "that's right!".
Go on!
Kirsten says
Your Swoon quilt is beautiful , especially with your amazing hand quilting!!

I've been curious to see this finished, I remember some of the squares from prior posts. Well it turned out great! I've always enjoyed commenting on your posts due to the joy I get from seeing your beautiful creations. I also like your pace, quality not quantity.

Ooh… I love his! I bet it is super cosy with that flannel backing!!! I am getting ready to start a swoon quilt… Thinking about using my little folks voile stash. I wanna hand quilt mine too so I will be watching for more pictures of yours to see how you did your hand quilting! Thanks for sharing your creativity with us! I can always count on yours blog for loads of inspiration!
Nicky says
I had a plan to make a swoon quilt – just got as far as buying the pattern! Your is lovely and will certainly keep you cosy with it's flannel backing!
DeborahGun says
You inspire me to keep persevering with hand quilting. I get tired of the slowness of it, but I love the way it looks when it is finished! But I have never made a quilt the size of this one!
Carla Grant says
I love all of you've quilts. I have recently just finished my second (traditional English paper piecing) hand sewn hexagon patchwork quilt (well minus the quilting part, that was done on a sewing machine) it took me over a year to make and being the same size as a single bed. My first one was just a sample and ended up being a cot size quilt. Although it was a big task, I enjoyed it and can't wait to try different patterns. Also I am quit proud to add that the first one was actually my first quilt I made ever =) xo
