About a year ago, I was looking at hand dyed fabric for some reason. I came across this one random bundle on Etsy. It was being cleared out by a vintage/supplies shop, and had no connection to the person who had originally dyed the fabric. It was a large bundle of smallish pieces (around a 1/4 yard at the largest) in all these shades of green and blue, with a bit of that pink thrown in.
SO not my colors, really, but I was drawn to it, and it was a great price so I snapped it up. Once this bundle arrived, I just fell in love with the soft depth of the colors. They are not ‘marbled’ purposely, but just have the slightly aged, not-quite-solid colored look.
They sat on my shelf for a long time, because ‘what to make with them?’ It just didn’t work to pair them with other fabrics, so in the end, I just decided to use them all together in one quilt, adding nothing.
I used them all up, except for a couple little strips left at the end. The final verdict is that although these are not colors that I’d normally work with (especially those pinks mixed with the blue and green), I still really love it, because of the look of the hand dyed fabrics.
I used Kaffe Fasset Shot Cottons on the back and binding, because their look is the most similar that I could find to this softer washed look. I did dense straight line quilting, but again the Shot Cotton on the back seems to have kept this quilt soft and drapey.

Your piece is delightful. I can imagine the softness of the fabrics! Did you use a walking foot to quilt?

I love this palette but I also would never have picked it out myself. Without the pink it would just disappear. It turned out beautifully, thanks for sharing.

I love hand dyed cotton. I dyed quite a lot last summer trying to create an ombre effect on canvas to make into a bag. I had yellow and indigo hands but it was really fun. The colours do have a different quality when you dye it yourself. I love this quilt and I think you described it perfectly – a soft depth.

This is really lovely Jolene – I like how it has a real vintage look even though it's newly made. The way it has shrunk up after quilting and the soft colours make it look so snuggly. I really like the Kaffe Fassett shot cottons for their softness too – it's not the best thing for precise piecing but it does make a lovely binding and it's very nice to hand quilt too.

I agree, the colors look pastel and remind me of easter, yet at the same time it's one that would draw me in for all seasons all year long. Great snag and great use of it!
