oh, this feels so good to finish up some of these quilts! this one has been on the partly finished pile for a long time.
pattern: Hopscotch by Thimbleblossoms
fabric: Dream On by Urban Chicks jelly roll (no this line is no longer printed, and i’m not sure if it’s available)
backing fabric: the floral print is Dream On and the chevron is Riley Blake Chevron
about the pattern:
slightly more complex than beginner, only because you need to be quite accurate in your cutting and piecing to get all your points to match up. (yes i’m talking from experience) when i started out cutting, i was impatient and didn’t make myself a template as the instructions recommended. i just measured the length between angles and cut away! So I had a lot of trouble with inconsistent pieces. Oh, well, in the end it’s quite a busy pattern and the fabrics are not high contrast so you don’t really notice all the points that don’t match.
all in all, i definitely want to try this pattern again. i want to change up my value placement to put more focus on those little ‘stars’. When you use a jelly roll, the focus tends to be on the strips that form the triangles, but i think it would look awesom with the corner pieces being the ones that pop out. Here is an example of darker values being used in the corner pieces to make stars.
about the fabric: i’ve always loved this line. i had the one jelly roll and was always ‘saving’ it. inspired by vintage sheets, it’s one of those lines that i actually like just by itself without anything added. Like this, this and this! oh, and this!
about the backing and binding:
i think my favorite thing about this whole quilt is the chevrons on the back. mixing something so graphic and modern with something so soft and girly is just fun!
i bound it with a solid yellow and this time i hand stitched the binding to the back. hmmm… not sure why, but i think i feel a post about bindings coming on.

Gorgeous quilt, love the fabrics you chose, Urban Chiks always bring out lovely fabric ranges. I have a Hopscotch quilt that is unfinished (made with blue and green batiks) after seeing your finished one, I definately have to get it finished….

I'm cutting up vintage sheets in pinks and yellows to make a quilt. I've got some of those Dream On fabrics and I can't decide whether to mix them in or not. Would they always stand out for not having the vintage texture?

I like the color choice you made for the points and centers. This is a darling quilt. Never thought of using a dream on jelly roll. very girly and yet the chevron backing is a yummy unexpected touch.

Delicious! I love Dream on! The only quilt I ever made within went to my Urban Home Goods swap partner 🙁 I have got a layer cake though so I might just have to make something for myself 🙂
