Here’s my next two blocks for the Moda Building Blocks Sampler. The top one is 24″ x 24″ (i think) and the bottom one is 6″ x 6″.
With the top block I am slightly unhappy with the color/value placement. I wanted the two halves of the geese to be a very similar value, and I thought they were. That green tricked me though, and ended up being a fair bit darker than the aqua. Or maybe it’s more a problem that the aqua blends into the background color… Anyways, this block is a real stunner if you can get your values right. I’m not bothered by it enough to make a new block though! Partly because these huge blocks eat up a large amount of fabric.
And the little block suffers from imperfect piecing. If you feel insecure about your seam matching skills, well here you go! I didn’t think it was so bad but this close up photo really highlights it. Won’t be fixing this either though!
Are you sensing a theme here? Ya, I’m not really a perfectionist. I have an internal list of things I won’t allow, but slightly mismatched seams is not usually on that list:)

That quilt block on top is a stunner. Did you make that up? I love it.

Love that last line about internal list but slightly mismatched not on that list – sounds so like me – can really relate. I love both blocks. Karen

I know we're all probably more critical of our own stuff but I gotta say – I think that top block is balanced and stunning!!! I am loving your take on this quilt…I bought the pattern to be my post-holidays winter project. As much as I love all the beautiful versions in vibrant solids I'm seeing of this, I knew I wanted mine to be a bot different. Thank you for inspiring me to think outside the box 🙂

Haha that seems like a healthy attitude. What's on your list of things you won't allow?

I love the colors and fabrics you've chosen for these blocks and the previous ones you posted. Sometimes I squint when I'm trying to figure out the value of fabrics or I've heard you can take a picture with your digital camera and switch from color to black and white if your camera has that feature. Sometimes if I have to get my seams to match I will pin on either side of the seam that needs to line up and that helps a lot, but you probably know that trick. Anyway — great job on these blocks — you are such a talented quilter!!

That big block looks great! I am making this quilt from the kit because I wanted to explore solids but your blocks are such stunners I am wondering why I wasn't more adventurous! Can't wait to see these all together.

A quilt is more than its seams! Won't even be noticeable when finished. Besides, there's no time for perfectionism with three kids to care for, especially when the youngest is likely feeding through the night!
I think it's lovely that a quilter as accomplished as you admits to an 'it will do' approach – lets the rest of us feel justified in getting things done rather than unpicking every imperfection.

they look beautiful, imperfections and all! this is going to be a killer building blocks quilt.
totally appreciate your "it is OK" attitude, too.

I had the most fun making all the blocks in this pattern. Considering how much I love solids, and am NOT a fan of Halloween, it's kind of weird that I would end up making a Halloween version! But I love it. I think once you have all the blocks together, you will be a big fan of the first block.
