This quilt was going to be a long term project. And it was, for a few months. But when a large project like this reaches about half way or a bit more, then I usually get excited to see it completed and forge ahead with great gusto.
So now I’ve got almost all the blocks made, just a few of those crazy 6″ blocks with all the tiny triangle pieces. I’m feeling tempted to forgo the last ones and just fill those spots up with 6″ squares of favorite fabrics, but I’m trying to resist. I want this to be a quilt that doesn’t cheat!
And I think I’m going to make it bigger, adding a row of blocks along one side to make it a healthy queen size.
The true story is that I’ve been quite enjoying the process on this quilt pattern. As I’m finishing up the final stretch, I’m actually considering making another one sometime. Maybe in all my favorite fabrics. And maybe instead of all those bitty 6″ blocks, I’d fill those areas up with scrappy 2″ squares.
I think the reason I love making a quilt like this is that I get to pick the fabric out for each block as I go along. Since the fabric picking is my favorite part, that means I get to spread it out through the whole process.

Yes, the green solid in the middle block is from Cloud 9's Cirrus Solids, the color called Sprout. If you were thinking of the green in the star points of the large block, it's Heath by Alexander Henry.

I think this is the prettiest building blocks quilt I've seen! So nice to see it in prints rather than solids. I liked what you said about gaining momentum. It gives me hope that some of my projects will reach a tipping point this year.
You have an eye for colour! What a great palette! I'm a bit jealous that you like picking fabric so much, for that is my worst job. I often get so frustrated as my eye for what will work often fails me.

Looking good! I'm finding that I enjoy making quilts with lots of different fabrics, too.
Ha! We are the exact opposites when it comes to this quilt. I am almost finished with my top but I made it smaller and loved using the kit so that I didn't have to think about fabric choices. I am loving how mine looks though and yours is beautiful!

This is beautiful! I'm planning to try this pattern later this year, very cool to see what it looks like in a mix of prints and patterns.
I have had the same temptation to use plain 6" squares on a few of the more fiddley little blocks that make my head hurt just looking at them! I'm doing mine with all AMH so I could use the excuse of wanting to showcase some of the bigger prints… maybe, maybe not, we'll see!

I'm working on a Gypsy Wife and I would have to agree about wanting to power through now that I've got a lot done and also about getting to fabric luck for each block. Your colors are so yummy with the soft pastels and the punchy ones. It keeps it from being too bold or too sweet. Lovely picks!

Yes! I love that about samplers – getting to choose the fabrics for each block as you go. I wasn't that into this pattern in the original version, but yours is looking gorgeous. Looking forward to the big reveal!
Look at you go! I bought the kit but haven't done a thing with it. I've taken the fabric out and petted it a little bit, but that's all. How long did it take you to get to this point?
I really love your fabric choices! So pretty. I love choosing the fabric for each block, but I ended up powering my way through the whole quilt as having stacks of fabric for picking and choosing, all over my sewing room and into the dining room, was kind of driving me nuts!
