Here’s my mom’s Bramble Blooms quilt! I just had to show it to you because I think it’s so great…and I’m proud of her for making an improv style of quilt! Making up your own designs for quilts is not better than using a pattern, but it’s just different. It uses different brain muscles, and it can be a bit intimidating. But I also think it’s so incredibly rewarding when it comes together and there you have something that’s uniquely your idea!
She used a blanket stitch on her sewing machine to finish the appliqué, and then hand quilted it.
The back is a rust coloured double gauze, and with the hand quilting it makes for a very soft and squishy quilt!
This quilt design was made using the prompts and quilt along on QuiltyFolk’s blog. I’ve never had so much fun in my life working on a quilt, and wait anxiously for the next instalment… I also suggest that if you want some serious inspiration for making quilts that are uniquely your own, look through QuiltyFolk’s blog archives! I feel like her quilts are so wonderful and full of personality. I want to make quilts just like them! But then I need to be inspired by them and rather make MY version of my best quilts, right?
Speaking of which….! My earlier blog post mentioned my dilemma with this second Bramble Blooms Quilt center. After writing the post, it started to solidify in my mind that the original lattice blocks were really the right ones for this quilt. So I went back to them and decided to try arranging them in a color wash layout, because that always seems to help a chaotic design for me.
And now I’m satisfied! I like it, and am ready to add the next border!

Your quilt looks super!!!!! And I’ve noticed on your mom’s quilt that her stitch on the binding looks more secure than when you try to hide it under the binding edge….any thoughts on this…… ohhhhh, and that double gauze backing ……so cozy !!!!!
