This is one of this little projects that I quick squeezed in between the larger ones that I really should be working on!
It all started with pajama pants on the clearance rack at Target. I saw that one gray print with the neon splashy florals, and then I saw two more different prints that coordinated. At $6.00 for an XXL, I couldn’t leave them there.
My biggest challenge was finding fabrics at home that matched. Especially that neon pink. I simply didn’t have anything close, so I stuck with mostly adding grays, an aqua, and a yellow.
I used my Granny Square tutorial, only I cut the white blocks at 2.5″x 3″, instead of 2.5″ square. (this just gives you a little extra wiggle room when trimming up)
love this!! granny looks so young in neon!!
I love this idea! I have random pieces of clothing that I thrown into my craft room because the prints are too cute to give up but I never knew what to do with them. Brilliant!
Haha! Love it. I've looked at a few pieces of clothing and thought, "gosh, they should make fabric out of that print" and never thought to just buy some and cut it up.
Good old Target – its a fab quilt.
Love the pyjama pant fabric and how you have used it in the quilt.
Using pyjamas is just brilliant and the resulting quilt is just gorgeous! I bet you have plenty of fabric left over as well 🙂
Very well done! Love this sweet quilt and the use of pj's makes for a fun story.
Awesome!
what a fantastic idea, such a perfect quilt!!! Oh, and I have those PJs in even brighter colorway btw, maybe when I get tired of them I should just cut them up and use up in a quilt. Thanks for the fun idea 🙂
I think I'm going to have to check out my Target! I have some neons fabric I don't know what to do with.
I will be looking at the sale rack at Target differently the next time I'm in there!
Love the quilt. Thanks for sharing!
I've bought XXL clothes to make kids stuff but never thought to use it for quilting! Your use of neon is just beautiful!
Everything you make is just perfect! 🙂
What a neat quilt! It just shows that you can find inspiring fabric just about anywhere 🙂
what a great idea! A truly cheap way to go out on a limb and try something totally fun and different!
It is always exciting to see there is a new blogpost from elephantstitches. I am following your blog for a long time now and want to thank your for the fun to see your Quilts. I love your style, your feeling for colors and design. Many greetings from Munich.
I love this. I love a little hit of neon with grey, I'm a little obsessed at the moment with that combination. Perfect choice to turn them into granny squares – that's a pretty hip granny.
I know I'm a day late but I just wanted to tell you this little quilt is amazing!…even if you've already heard it at least 17 other times!
This is one of your prettiest quilts yet! Love it.
That's so fun haha! Target pajama pants!! 🙂
Love it….using your tutorial for a queen size quilt now! Great tutorial!!
Awesome idea!
