I started this quilt out by making nine patch units from scraps. I included so many pieces of favorite fabrics! Then I decided to do this snow ball type block in between because I like how it gives the suggestion of stars. In the beginning I thought this quilt would be the one I’d give away in the swap I did with friends. Once the top was together though, I decided it wasn’t quite the right one for that. Don’t ask me why, it just wasn’t:)
I put the quilt top into the closet for awhile as per usual. I almost always work on a top from start to finish and then put it aside for awhile before quilting. Anyways, last week I decided to quilt this one, and went searching for a back. This special vintage Care Bears sheet was just asking to be used.
These Care Bears are just the final straw that will make this quilt pretty hard to part with!
Nine patch squares were cut at 2.5″, and when sewn together make a block that’s 6.5″
Snowball blocks were cut at 6.5″ and the black corner blocks were cut at 2.5″
Its a lap size quilt, cotton batting, and straight-line quilted on my home sewing machine.
It will also be available in my shop!

Your beautiful quilt post is serendipity.
I just finished a snowball pattern quilt, and I was feeling a bit paralyzed about how to commence with the topstitching, but this straight-line quilting is perfect.
Thank you for the inspiration!

There are so many ways you could quilt this…apart from a labour of love with custom quilting, Baptist Fan seems to work for every quilt, and would give this one that old timey look!

Hi Jolene. I love your quilts – the simple designs and your bold use of color. This one especially interests me because I have been saving 2 1/2 inch strips forever. I’ll start this soon! Thank you!!

What a lovely quilt! As I have a stack of layer cakes (pre cuts made from decades of scraps) this is perfect to make a quilt for ME. I also love the idea of hand quilting with the Baptist Fan pattern. Just got an oversized stencil for that (to make things easier for me), so that’s the way I’m going. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful quilt – the classics are the best to me, especially all scrappy! Best wishes to you!
