facts about the pixelated hearts quilt;
• made completely from 3″ squares
• the heart itself is made completely from Kaffe Fasset fabrics. which are great for a jewel glow!
• i hand quilted this one by eye, you can see the lines are a bit wonky…
• it’s still one of my favorites i’ve made in a long time.
• i want to make a bigger one in a lap size, i wonder if i could get away with bigger squares? would 5″ squares take away from the pixel look? i’m just lazy that way, cuz the thought of sewing together that many tiny squares? yup, i’m lazy:)
and here’s a visual tip for constructing a quilt like this. i find it easiest to break it down into 9 blocks like this. you could even employ some strip piecing to make it go faster!

What a sweet quilt!
BTW I'm still loving the granny square block and have taken it in a slightly different direction with my latest quilt. I've used scrappy blocks and made giant ones. If you get a chance have a look http://janeweston.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/move-over-granny.html and once again thanks for the inspiration!!

I saw this post about a month ago and it totally inspired me! I was in the process of figuring out a layout for a wall hanging quilt. I had about 50 or so 4 1/2 in squares that guest of a wedding signed instead of the normal guest book. I thought wow this would be perfect! Thank you! I put the signed blocks in the middle and outlined it with purple blocks and used the rest of the green orange and purple blocks randomly around the purple outline. I also added two of the newlyweds pictures underneath the heart. I would love to send you some pictures. Should I sent them to your email or Flickr?

Thank you so much for sharing the information on how to lay out this pattern I've been staring and searching everywhere for the instructions on how to make this. I think I will try it with the 5" squares as well and make a beautiful wall hanging for my new granddaughters room. I will post a photo of it on Flickr when I get it done.

Thank you so much for this post. I tracked this down via Instagram and @adrianneonthewindyside. I have just found out that my daughter has PtSD after being mugged in London last July (with a knife to her neck). I really want to make this for her as she starts therapy to recover. Just thought you might like to know how far the ripples of your creation spread out!! xo Michelle in Australia
