For years I've dreamed of writing a book about quilting. The type of book that I've felt is completely missing from the quilting world. Â More photos and inspiration, and less technical details and pages of writing. Â I've tried to accomplish that with my first book, which is self published and full of quilts, simple patterns, lots of talk about the quilts... and well, maybe that's enough for this paragraph! I like to read it all. And I second that gorgeous! I do have to admit, I tend to skip through the "what I wore," recipes, and some personal stuff posts. My time to internet surf is pretty limited, so I usually fly through my RSS feed as fast as I can.
Pictures, pictures and more pictures. Love to see what you're working on from start to finish!
ALL OF THE ABOVE LOL!!! Especially a quilt in a hoop while someone is doing something else , in the park in a pic nic or in the kitchen baking pies etc…

Yes on tutorials. Yes on progress pics *except* for piles of fabric. I read crafty blogs to see things being made, and there's not really making going on there.
Your lunch and random opinions, I don't particularly care about. (Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it sounds like you wanted honesty). Opinions on quilty things though, I'll take that.
Personally, with craft blogs I like to see mainly crafting content. I'm fine with some personal stuff (maybe not what you ate for lunch, unless it was really yummy!!!) but like to see the theme of the blog stay as the main topic. As for specifics, I love love love tutorials and tips, links to other great stuff…..actually all of the things you listed above are great! Now I'm sure that's helpful, hey? 😉
As for the quilt in question, I'd love to see the whole thing.
First…that quilt is GORGEOUS!!! It is hard to read anything after that because I keep wanting to scroll back up for another look. I love reading about what you are making, how you are making it, how you choose fabrics, how you decide on layout. Really I just love reading about the process of being crafty and of course finished photos too.
Lunch and randomness I don't mind sometimes but not too often. When a blog begins to have more posts about non-crafty things I tend to slowly stop reading and eventually stop coming all together.
I love your blog just how it is! I like tutorials and quilt alongs, but I understand that they are a lot of work. I love links to other stuff too. I don't really need to know where you bought your fabric (unless you got a great deal!) but I do like to know what it is. And I'd love to see the whole quilt from the pic above! I like progress pics, I need to get better at them myself, I tend to just do the 'big reveal'.
No need to shut up, but please do show the whole quilt! If I drooled over quilts, I would be drooling now 🙂 There is nothing on your list I would not want to see, but with crafty blogs I'm most interested in the process–where you get your materials, how you made it, progress and finished pics, etc. I like the other stuff too sprinkled in for fun because crafty bloggers aren't *only* about crafts!

I like most of what you mentioned, but I think I really enjoy the tutorials with pictures. I'm such a copy cat and I love to have something to copy!
That is a beautiful quilt. I agree with Kelly..please show the whole quilt. As far as content I love pictures (before, during, after) and everything else except for where something came from unless there is a really good deal there.

How you made it and tutorials are my favorite. Honestly, I don't understand quilters who can keep track of the names of the lines of fabric! I also like it when you share cool stuff you've found elsewhere. Piles of fabric don't do much for me because I can't see the big picture – wish I could!
i love the quilt progress, it's so pretty. and as far as what you want to blog about, just do whatever you want to. Like a few other commenters, I tend to skip over a lot of non crafty content, but when I really enjoy and get to know the people behind the blog, those posts are fun too. Oh and do show pics of yourself, you're an blogging mystery to me. 🙂
Things I like best on tutorials, first and foremost, what you are doing craft wise, next an occasional tutorial, but how many need to be written, I also like for bloggers to share things about themselves and/or their families. Process falls out naturally as you chat about what you are doing a good enough level for me. I don't have to know all the steps, but some people do.
Apparently I'm in the minority here, but I like hearing about some of the non-crafty stuff sometimes. I love seeing personal glimpses of what other people are like when they aren't creating. But as far as the crafty side of things goes…tutorials are always good. I like seeing projects in progress… makes it a little more realistic and not like you just whipped out this fabulous creation in an hour. Gives me some hope, I guess! Links are always fun, too, as are your opinions. It IS your blog after all!

I love the personal talk along with lots of pictures of projects and fabric. Opinions, pet peeves, glimpses of your space and life are fun and interesting. It's so great to connect with someone who may feel as I do on matters, or gives me the other side of the story.
Things I don't like are music that auto-plays and apologies for not posting. I can take an occasional apology, but music …. never!
I love the pictures of progress… I can tell you are inspired with stacks of fabric, pictures of stash, and partly made blocks… Same here! It's all great tho:)
I love pretty much everything you listed. I especially love your photos of your work. I admit that I skip over any food- or recipe-containing posts. But that's what the scroll bar is for! Blog about what you want to blog about! 🙂

I would read your blog no matter what you choose to blog about, Jo! But I love tutorials and links and pictures.
Well, you know, I like you. And what you do. That's why I follow your blog. SO pretty much everything you did by now is really ok with me. It's what kept me coming back.
If you're in a 'that kind of moment', where you're unhappy, don't know where to go, or just don't get it how come you have so many visitors and so little comments… I'd say take a step back.
If it's one of the first two things, just do what you feel. I'm sure everybody connects to somebody having a difficult time finding it's place.
If it's the no. of comments, I'd say try wrinting different. SOmething that would make someone else want to say something too, to start a dialogue.
Anyway, be yourself! We love you like this 🙂
Do: show works in progress, the final reveal, thoughts on quilty matters, short, snappy tutes, links to interesting quilty things.
Don't: apologise for not posting, show a long WIP list of words only (I skip that on other blogs), family holiday snaps etc (I'm not insensitive to the kids/family thing, I just personally prefer blogs that don't combine the two), become an advertising vehicle for the latest online fabric store/gadget/notion etc.
Our time is precious and I regularly 'cull' my Google Reader list to make sure that those thar remain in there are an inspirational shots of quilty goodness that provide the creative escape I need after a long, pressurised day. Yours is in there 😉
Well, like most of your readers I would say all of the above, except perhaps what you ate for lunch (unless it's quilt related):-) I log on to see what you're making, as inspiration partly, and partly to feel part of a creative community. Please keep up your good work!
I discovered your blog about a month ago and instantly bookmarked it because I was inspired by your quilts. I love your use of colour and fabrics, your designs, the quilting you've chosen to do, etc. These are the things I like to read about on quilting blogs: your inspiration, the process, the final quilt. I also appreciate tutorials and tips (e.g. links to a tutorial you used, a mention of a book where you found a pattern, your experience using a new quilting/sewing technique or tool). I prefer quilting blogs that do not include family or other non-quilting related content.
I am a central Alberta girl who now lives far, far away so it was great to find your blog. Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity!

It's a very interesting question! I agree that keeping things mostly crafty is good, but I like the occasional recipe, snippet of your life other than crafting, etc. Tutorials and QALs are fun!

I do like some personal stuff especially as it relates to your sewing.
But that said, it is of course your blog and you should write what you want. I think of my blog as a kind of personal sewing journal which I share with others who might relate.
I am so impressed with your quilts. There are a ton of quilting blogs online, but yours is by far my favorite because of the beauty of your quilts. But sometimes I do wish you had some instructions. I like the humor in your writing so you can pretty much write about anything you want, but mostly I want to see your latest project.
What I like most about any quilt/craft blog I read is large photos and how you made it. Thanks for asking!

Hmmmm….I think I like to read/see all of your suggestions. Lots of pictures though, blogs are much more appealing when there's something to feast your eyes on.
I read blogs for all of the above. I've only recently found yours but I tend to enjoy the ones that post what they want to post and focus less on what we want. I understand that to develop an audience, you have to care a little bit about what they might like to read but it's far more important that you're putting out there something YOU are invested in. It's your blog; if you're interested in it, we will be, too.

Pictures, lots of photos. The picture is what draws me in and if I like it then I want to read all about it. If it is something I like and would like to try and make myself then a tutorial is very helpful. You do great, I love your blog.

Not that my answer may matter much but I like reading the blogs that have a healthy mix of it all.
I also LOVE when the blogger is really themself. It makes or breaks a blog really. So think about all of the things you posted…. It would be nice to see a little bit of all of it.
Lots of pictures. Maybe atleast one for every post. Even if it is just of your everyday life. It shows us that you a real human at the other end of the writing.
Be sure to explain the picture. If it's your favorite recipe please share it. If it is a WIP or UFO tell us a little about it. If it is a finished project maybe tell us how you came up with the idea and how well it worked out from beginning to end. If it is of your kids help us capture the fun of the moment. If it is something that was super hard to make give us some tips and tricks or a step by step through the hard stuff.
If you read about or see any new cool stuff tell us about it and where you found it.
The reason we love blogs is because we love the personality that the writer brings forth. Sit back relax and do what comes natural to you!
As a new quilter, I love all the eye candy. Alot of times, I want to know how to step by step and tips, hints, tutorials. Love the process. Also, who's fabric did you use. Also, for a beginner, I'd like to know how much time is spent from start to finish to complete the quilt or top. Of course, favourite recipes are nice too. Tips to get dinner on the table fast so that the dinner table can be cleared and set up for quilting. 🙂
Your color combinations are amazing. I personally think picking colors for a quilt is the most difficult part of the process and it's what most people struggle with. I find your color choices very uplifting. Can brighten up a dull day. As a novice quilter I draw inspiration from just the pictures to help me pick a good color palette. I would be more interested in how you put the colors together.
Where can I get this pattern?! I NEED it!!!!!!
