Here we have all the quilt I made out of the book ‘Simply Retro’. Two of the quilts were large lap size/twin quilts, and the rest were baby size or I downsized them to baby size. Although I finished the last one at least a year ago, I can say that I really enjoyed this project.
I think I enjoy having some creative restraints. Working with a pattern that I may not have chosen and then finding fabrics and maybe a slight design tweak for it is very rewarding for me.
I find myself craving this project again so I’m working on choosing another book. (this one will have more larger quilts) I’m realizing that different stages in life call for different types of quilting. Right now with four young children, my quilting needs to be fairly simple. I don’t have large stretches of time to absorb myself, but rather 10 minutes here or there. Improv work takes energy for me, and also time to get into and find a flow.
So right now patterns feel quite appealing, even though I have so many other ideas in my head! I have at least 3 books that I’m deciding between. There are way too many options…

I'm kind of hoping/planning to do the same with a book I have… i forget the name, maybe hm. Jelly roll something, by the designer of Lella Boutiques fabrics.. Vanessa Goertzen, I think. (I'm not at home, so relying on my memory!) I'm wanting to actually use my stashed jelly rolls (which I've quit buying) and this seems like a good way to do it. There are a couple quilts I don't like much and might skip, but I do like enough that it feels like a fun project.
What a great idea (and resulting quilts!!)It certainly makes the book purchase worthwhile.
They are all lovely and look well-made. I wish I was a pattern follower (I always skip ahead and make mistakes). I really enjoy the pattern designing so much though. Rather than children, I have dogs that like to disrupt my sewing time.
