My scrap pile has been waaaay out of control for a long time. So last week I decided to do some thorough cleaning out. I cut out a BUNCH of 2.5″ squares to make some type of scrappy quilt, and anything smaller than that is going in the trash.
Yes, I did have LOTS of pieces that were too small to cut a 2.5″ square from…! I have this problem that I think I’ll make quilts with those itty bitty pieces, but in reality they all just make my bins so full that I can’t find anything without half the contents spilling!

Playing fabric store!! That's so cute. Would only happen in a quilter's house. 🙂

I love the wire baskets! Fabric store sounds just like something my kids would do, too. And you should market your carpet as "vintage" then everyone really would be jealous!

Did you throw those scraps out yet? I'd be happy to take them off your hands! 🙂

Oooh I should do that too. My jars are filled to the brim! Good idea!
Also, you might want to check out this link for how to make shiny metal rusty: http://www.homeroad.net/2011/09/rusty-chicken-wire-solution.html I saw this post on a blog I read the other day and decided to pin it onto one of my boards on Pinterest. Although I thought your bins looked great as is. But if you really want that antique look…

Really like the looks of the wire baskets. I suppose I like anything with fabric scraps, but nevertheless, those looks very pretty! Was Walmart the superstore where you got them? And, which section? Thanks.

Love your wire baskets too! There is something to be said for being able to see and be inspired by your scraps. How cool it is for the kids to be playing fabric store!

OMG so similar to my carpet, mine is this horrid burnt orange colour… So far attempts to convince friends it's vintage (and therefore kind of cool) have not had the desired effect… Woe!
Looking forward to see what you do with your little scrappy squares.

Ah, doesn't it feel better to get it under control and know what's there? You'll have a scrappy quilt in progress before you know it!

I've got a box of little piles of assorted squares that I cut up form left overs. I haven't done anything with them except I've been doing postage stamp squares for some time in between other projects.
I'm thinking of doing a good cleaning out after Christmas.
I had the very same carpeting in my downstairs until we had a small water issue. I was almost happy about it just to get rid of it. (I hope that really was sarcasm I detected there)

The little bits that I have come to realise I will never actually use, have gone to the 'kids bin'. My borrowed daycare children love to glue them onto bristol board in a patchwork design & show off their quilts!

No I'll just be jealous of the kids! If I did what you have done I would be sneaking back my tiny scraps when the kids were in bed!

OMG Jolene!!! I did the SAME thing!!!! I cut a bunch of 3×3 and 2×2 squares just to allow myself to throw some of the excess out LOL!! There must have been something in the air!! ; )
Rachel at Stitched in Color says
You don't want to know how TINY the scraps were that I was using this weekend. I mean, I cut the strips to 1.5" wide and that was before the real cutting…
Yep, I just can't shake the small scraps!

Your wire baskets are awesome! I need to get my scraps under control. Maybe in January… 🙂
