The bottom drawer of my sewing room cupboard is where all rejected quilt starts go. I often try making a few blocks and then decide I’m not feeling it, so these blocks get shoved in this drawer. One day I decided to do something with them and realized that they all kind of worked together in a big quilt. I had to sew a few more bit and pieces and strips to make them all work together, but I love the finished quilt! It has a lot of fabrics and blocks that I love.
The back is a vintage cotton that turned out to be very soft. I used Quilter’s Dream Low Loft batting and quilted it by machine with straight lines. I had a reason for doing the quilting lines horizontally, but for the life of me I can’t remember what it was:)

“how do i love thee”! what a gorgeous quilt…. if i ever get over this dratted virus i will pull that box down from the high shelf , the orphan blocks box, and see if mine will fit together so well.I fear they won’t and that colour will be my stumbling block. too many wide differences, but we will see.
yours is an absolute beauty and i absolutely love it.

Such a wonderful idea! It looks like it was planned out from the beginning instead of just a bunch of orphan blocks in a drawer. It just shows that those tossed aside blocks can be put to good use. The possibilities are endless, but most would just do pillows, table runners, or pot holders. I know I wouldn’t have thought to make a quilt out of them all. Love it so much!
