This one was just a fun little in-between project. I’ve always loved these liberated cross quilts. I had a bundle of FQs of Shelburne Falls by Denyse Schmidt in green. I added some solids and a few other prints and started out making a lap size quilt.
Somewhere along the way i decided to make it a baby size, so here it is. I used Kaffe Shot Cotton in Aqua on the back, which makes for the softest quilt back EVER!
This is one of my favorite colors of Shot Cotton too. It reminds me of worn and faded denim. And that black floral print with the yellow flowers? Love that one too! Other than that one print though, I’m not sure how crazy I am about Shelburne Falls.
I generally love everything Denyse designs. I love the vintage look, and they always pair well with other fabrics. On it’s own though, this collection doesn’t grab me. What about you? Do you love it? Have you made something with it? I’d love to know!

I have most everything except original FMF, Greenfield (which I think was also before my time and I didn't "go back" for it), and a few of the earliest Joann's prints. And Shelburne. I can't bring myself to buy it — and to be honest, I'm SO glad. I don't like feeling (as I did, for a while) that I have to buy every print she puts out. Girlfriend is too prolific for that, and my budget does not permit it, so not buying the Shelburne really gave me a sigh of relief, like the pressure's off. I don't have to have them all — I really don't!
That said, this quilt is gorgeous. I think it was the purple colorway that really turned me off — yikes, I am old enough to remember those colors from the 80s, and not in a fond, sentimental way. The colorway you've used is really lovely, especially as you've done it (and with a liberal dose of Hope Valley!).

That whole Flea Market Fancy craziness made us think we had to have them all. (me at least!) But I find it comforting to know that she keeps coming out with more unique collection so I can pick and choose what I like the best.

i felt the same way about this collection! i bought a layer cake and am using it for a quilt to donate to the OK Modern Quilt Guild's collection for the families who lost everything in the tornados. You did a lovely job pairing other fabrics with this line – in love, now i kind of want to do the same.

Beautiful! Love how soft this looks.:)

I was given a layer cake and have played with it at this stage. I loved it initially but have struggled with how to make everything work. It is quite heavy in design and colour but your use of it is brilliant. Lovely!

What a lovely color palette. I have to say that Shelburne Falls is my favorite Denyse line to date. Chicopee didn't do as much for me. But, I must admit to owning a LOT of Shelburne. lol
Shot cottons in general…Yummmmmm!

There are a few prints I like from that line… the florals with the dark backgrounds and the scallop-y looking print. But there are a lot that look dated to me. I do like the overall look of this quilt, though!

I feel the same – I'm not in love with this collection at all. There are a few prints I like and will get eventually but that's it. But it's not unusual for me to like only a few prints in a collection. I'm good at matching and I don't really like to stick with only one collection !
This quilt is gorgeous though and it does look soft and cosy 🙂

I do love Chicopee, but not so much this one.

I haven't made anything with it and don't actually have any. I have to say though (and I mean this as a huge compliment). A lot of blogs make me want to buy fabric but your blog makes me want to quilt. And I do quilt but your blog really makes me want to (like right now and I am exhausted). Thank you for all the inspiration.
Jolene says
That is an amazing compliment, Christine. Thank you!

Adorable! All your quilts look so soft and sweet! You always make the fabric work!

Really beautiful! I agree about DS ranges – I love the vintage feel but I do prefer to mix and match them with other fabrics rather than use them all together.

The quilt is lovely. I feel the same way about Shelburne Falls. I bought a few of the prints for the exact reason that they tend to coordinate well with other fabrics. I do love the floral that you are talking about in the Maple colorway so I just ordered a whole bunch of it on sale from Pink Castle Fabrics to use as a quilt back at some point. Sometimes I don't care much for a collection until I see it used well and you definitely used it well here so this makes it look more appealing.

These cross blocks have been on my list forever. I do like your quilt. You have such a brilliant way of putting things together. I think you could make an all white quilt look good : )
( now there's a challenge)

I haven't seen the line in person but it looks amazing teamed with the other fabrics and in that design. It's a stunning baby quilt 🙂

Jolene, your quilts always inspire me. I love the scrappy feel and what always inspires me are your complimentary fabric choices. They are always just right.
I really like some of the prints in this line although not all. I made a Big Bucket Tote out of a jelly roll. It's here: http://www.pellonprojects.com/projects/big-bucket-tote/

I love Shelburne Falls but I also love that there's something for everyone out there! Very cute quilt.
Erin @ Why Not Sew? Quilts says
I haven't seen it in person but you've made it look wonderful!

The aqua shot cotton does look wonderful! I'm wondering if it's just my imagination or have you used a higher loft batting than usual in this quilt? It looks so soft and snuggly. (PS. That dark print with the yellow flowers is my hands down favourite from Shelburne Falls too!)
Jolene says
I used 80/20 batting which is a slightly higher loft than regular cotton. And yes, I love that print too! I ordered another half yard of that one:)

wonderful quilt – I love the way you have blended the colours and fabrics 🙂
Clair says
Not crazy about SF range but I do love how you've used it. Can't go passed a cross quilt 🙂

Really nice quilt! Love those color combinations you have used!

The aqua shot cotton is a very inspired choice. This quilt is so pretty. I'm not a huge fan of Shelburne Falls, although I sure do like Chicopee. I think mixing this line with other things is the best way to go.
Martha says
Lovely quit. I agree with you that Aqua cotton for the back is so cozy.
I have mixed feelings about Shelburne Falls too. I was really excited when it came out and order some half yards in the lilac and now I'm not too crazy about it.

Oh you'll sell it! And the Tuesday Scrappy Quilt is precious!

What is the fabric with the dark background and yellow flowers???
