Here’s a simple little baby quilt that I finished up in November. I got on a roll a few weeks ago and finished up quite a few quilts while my husband was gone on a trip. Hence why I have quite a few quilts to show you right now! Probably there won’t be much sewing time here till after Christmas, but I have so many ideas and so much inspiration… so watch out for me in January!
Back to this little quilt though! It’s a simple log cabin shape. I feel like this design is a no fail pattern that will always look good. It’s not as random/scrappy as some. I chose approx 12 fabrics and cut 2.5″ strips of each one. Then I used a bit of each piece in each block. This keeps it looking quite cohesive, but still low key and scrappy.
It’s just a baby size and I used a plush throw again on this one. It’s a deep sage color that I think looks stunning with the colours on the front. It’s for sale in my shop!

This is gorgeous. I have been a long time fan of your quilts. I live in Maine and this quilt definitely reflects our change of seasons between fall and winter. So far, we don’t have any snow on the ground as autumn hung around longer than usual.
I chuckled reading your post as I too have so many inspired ideas for after the new year as busy finishing up two Christmas quilt gifts. One improv log cabin is so bright and cheery that I named it Summer Sunshine. The other is a navy batik/ Bella white zigzag one. This daughter in law has always loved a very old one I made as I was beginning to learn machine quilting.

Thank you, Jolene for the pictures of your new quilt. It’s lovely, like the rest of your quilts.
For years I have followed your work and appreciate your helping all of us learn to quilt and giving us the confidence to not worry about the mistakes we all make.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.

This is just beautiful!
My apologies if this has been asked before, but when using a throw for the backing, do you still baste with batting in the middle. I’m so curious as to how it works- it seems like an excellent choice for a winter baby quilt or a quilt to be used as a baby’s play mat. 🙂

You could definitely still use batting but I find that quite heavy, so I’ve just been doing the throw with the top and leaving out batting. This seems to make a very nice drapey quilt.

So beautiful! All of your quilts have such a way with color. How much of each fabric did you have to make up this quilt?

Just spent a Very Enjoyable 3 hours (Where did the time go!) with you, strolling around peeking over your shoulder! Thank you, just what I needed!
I’ll be back….
