Here’s the Dapper quilt from Simply Retro. If it doesn’t seem quite familiar, I changed one simple thing…can you guess what it is? This was my least favorite pattern in the book, but when I thought of eliminating the vertical sashing strips, and then reversing the colored/background fabrics, it made all the difference for me.
In the original, the pinwheels are white, whereas in mine, they are printed. Clear as mud? Anyways, now I really like this pattern, as I always love pinwheels.
It’s backed in a voile, which makes it so silky and soft, and I free motion quilted it in a swirly pattern, which I haven’t done for awhile.
Here’s a mosaic of all the quilts I’ve made from Simply Retro so far.
If I really do make every one in the book, I’ve got 5 more to go, but there’s two that I’m contemplating leaving out… so that would be 3 left!

Love your interpretation of this pattern. Stunning.

I have this book, and I don't remember this pattern. Perhaps now that I've seen yours, which I like a great deal, that pattern will be more memorable to me. Great way to make the quilt more 'yours'.

I really love this! Your colors are great, and reversing the color/background seems to make the secondary pattern come out more. Love it.

I think you've hit on the perfect timing with your posts: make them frequent enough to keep us from giving up, but infrequent enough to keep us on the edge of our seats. I kid. Beautiful quilt, as always. I would never have thought of altering it in that way, opens my eyes to possibilities with other patterns.

I love this quilt! The colors are great, and the cream fabric with black x's is perfect. Who doesn't love pinwheels?

Lovety love it!!! 😍 now I'll have to go pull out my book and see the original cause I don't remember it at all. So amazing how different fabrics and values totally changes the finished quilt!

Looks nothing like pattern sample… amazing what switching the focus does. Looks so beautiful.
Do you have any thoughts on the label you used for this quilt? Do you like that kind? Have you used them long? I'm looking for a new brand of labels.
Still come and go away feeling inspired. Thank you.

Thank you! Decided to try a new kind of labels, they're from a shop called Ananemone on Etsy. Love the looks of them, they're a cotton label, but the jury is still out on how well the printing will hold out over many washings…i hope they do well!

Beautiful. I love how you are changing up the patterns a bit. It really helps me think through patterns I see a bit more to see how I could change them up to make them a bit more "me." Did you make your quilt tag or order it somewhere?

So pretty!! I want to make all of the patterns in that book too!

I am so impressed that you have stuck with your goal. I love that you are smart enough to change the quilt so that you like it. That is very ingenuious! Hopefully, I could do this someday…

That wasn't my favorite from the book, but I do like your version! The pinwheels are so much peppier when they are scrappy and colored! But now I'm thinking I would construct it totally differently, and make pinwheels and hourglass blocks and set them on point and avoid the mess of trimming flying geese (personal kryptonite, ugh!). I love seeing what you're up to!
