I’m so back on board with quilting…there’s a lot going on in my sewing room!
First of all, I’m working on a #ghosttownquilt, which is a pattern by Dana Bolyard of OldRedBarnCo. My version is a Town at Sunset, and I’m having a lot of fun making these blocks. The house in the last photo is my favorite so far! The dark blue plaid sky is a shirt from the thrift store. I think that men’s shirts have the best plaids for quilting!
And then, on the advice of some quilting friends, I bought a few of these clear plastic crafting containers, which they said were great for holding wips. I don’t usually have wips actually, just quite a few tops that need quilting. I tend to work on one top till it’s done and then put it away, hoping it will magically find the perfect backing, and baste and quilt itself. But now that I have these containers, I guess I thought it would be fun to start some projects to put in them… haha!
I also have been toying with the idea of doing another ‘Quilt the Book’ series. I did this quite a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Every winter since then I think about doing it again. I just need to choose a book where I would enjoy making a majority of the quilts on it’s pages.
I also have a lot of scraps building up again, so I think I’m going to choose the book ‘Sisterhood of Scraps’, because it’s full of scrappy quilts. I may not make every quilt in the book, but I know there are quite a few I’d like to make, so I’ve already started cutting for three of them! I made one block of each quilt and placed it in the container and then I’m cutting the size of squares for those blocks and adding them to their respective container.
Why do I do three at once? Well, they’re all different sizes of squares and strips. This is nice as I go through a pile of scraps because I can choose by the size of the piece which quilt it makes sense for. I’m sure I’ll share more of them as I put them together!

Usually I don’t buy craft books, but I have a copy of Every Last Piece by Lynn Harris, for working with tiny scraps. You have me thinking I may need to Quilt *this* Book. I’m glad to see you sewing again.

I am drooling over quilts in Carolyn Forsterās book Big Stitch Quilts. Lots of scrappy there and she encourages hand quilting. British writer. I keep coming back to your version of Carolina chain. Your coloration is much better than the original pattern. Did you stick with 2ā strips? Also, when cutting for three quilts at once, how do you keep them straight in your mind? Love your work and style.

I love your Sunset Houses version! It does look really warm and cozy as if there are fireplaces in each house. I’ve always loved your fabric combinations and your quilts always look so comfy and warm. I have that book also and would love to see your versions. I always get inspired by your quilts.
