My assignment for this quilt: Make a quilt that is totally ‘me’. I will be sending it off to an online quilting friend in a swap. I won’t know who I’m sending to until the quilt is. completely done.
Yikes! Talk about plumbing the depths of oneself to decide what pattern and color of quilt to make! 🙂
I started/made a few other quilts that ended up not feeling like the right one. Then I thought of making a Sunset coloured star quilt, and I knew I’d found the ‘me’ quilt.
I used my own tutorial for the Star Hollow blocks, and then decided to set them on point. I originally wanted to add instructions for this, but honestly, cutting setting squares on point, while supposedly simple, is not really 1 minute free tutorial material… You can look up the size of setting triangles needed for a quilt block size, and my advice is size up! I always seem to have a bit of grief with getting the right sizes, and although it all comes right in the end, like I said, its not just a slam dunk that I can tell you exactly how I did it, because honestly I’m not sure and don’t remember what size I ended up using and how it all worked.
Sometimes (often) with quilting, it’s a journey with a somewhat unknown destination. That’s fine with me, but it’s not really tutorial material haha.
But I completed the quilt, and here it was, in all it’s quite colourfulness! Oh well, it’s bright colors will be practical as a picnic blanket should the recipient be a person of very classy white on white tastes. Once all 19 of us had completed our quilts, we did a draw, and anonymously sent our quilts to the drawn name. We’re spread throughout the US and Canada, so we all waited excitedly for our quilts to arrive! This was such a fun thing to do and I’ll show you a few photos of the quilt I received, as soon as I have a chance to take some more photos with it!
Beautiful! I love the Star Hollow pattern and I love what you’ve done with it. As usual, your use of color and pattern are amazing.
I just signed up for your blog post, and I am glad I did. I really enjoy your taste and look forward to making my own Star Hollow quilt. I have been quilting since 2018 mostly using solid colors. I want to venture more into scrappy prints and I am curious if you ever list your fabric choices?
Utterly gorgeous!! An atypical color scheme—but what impact! Kudos—
Oh my goodness, I sure wish I was the lucky friend getting this gorgeous quilt! I just love the colors you chose and the pattern is amazing!

Once again I want to drop everything g and make one just like this! Imitation and flattery and all that. 😊
I study each of your posted quilts to see your use of color and how I can use that in my own journey. Also love your honesty about the struggle. It’s real and also agree it all comes right in the end. ❤️

What a beautiful, twinkling quilt! I have made a few hollow star blocks, but there are many sewing projects waiting to be finished before I can seriously start on this one. Maybe next month, when I have a few weeks off work? Thank you for the inspiration!
