…have no shoes!! Well at least this quilt maker’s son has one quilt, although it wasn’t quite completed when he was born.
This quilt was really hard to photograph! It’s a very ‘soft’ looking quilt. This idea of subtle gray and cream strips came as a round about idea from my original plan to make a pixelated heart quilt. I do really like the finished quilt, although I still have the urge to make him something bright and crazy too. I consider this his ‘good’ blanket although it gets used around the house all the time too.
I backed it in a cream flannel because I didn’t have anything in my stash that didn’t overpower or clash with the quilt top. I hand quilted on the diagonal both ways.
All along I knew I’d be adding a pale minty aqua for the binding. I’m not capable of making a quilt with NO color!!
Just a little side note: Because I love nothing better than a well wrinkled and softened quilt, I throw this quilt in with my light colored wash loads quite often. I figure that the sooner it gets that soft broken in feel, the more it will be loved. I’m not about preserving my quilts, but rather about beginning the disintegration process as quickly as possible;)
I realize this is crazy when you consider the amount of hours that are invested in a quilt, but this is really my quilting philosophy and is a large part of the reason that I love this form of creating. I’m so happy to make things that are pretty, but so very usable and tough.

Not crazy – on my quilt enclosure card that has washing instructions and a note, I share that my fondest dream would be for a quilt to be love into shreds!

What a beautiful quilt! I love the soft, muted colors which make the cute little green car and tiny pops of red extra adorable. I bet that green car will become the most loved /worn part of the quilt 🙂

I feel the same way about quilts! What a privilege to be able to make something beautiful AND useful!

Low volume quilts are growing on me but as much as I love color, I believe I am incapable of making one. You did a great job. I have two baby quilts to make and the colors will be something to wear sunglasses for. 🙂

I'm appreciating the subtlety of LV more but then any colour added like your binding really gets a lot of focus and that Aqua is a fabulous choice

I agree that a well loved quilt is the best return on investment. This quilt is a beautiful mix of low volume and pops of color.

I totally agree with your quilting beliefs! Love your work!

Very soft and pretty, but still masculine. 😀 And I wholeheartedly agree… I tell people all the time. I don't want my quilts to last 50 years, that means they weren't loved.

I'm partial towards the LV quilts…., they just are more comfy. Nice touch with the binding….

Absolutely lovely! I always enjoy seeing your work and could not agree more about your quilting philosophy. It breaks my creative little heart when friends refuse to let their babies use quilts I've made.

I love your quilting philosophy! The first three quilts I made went to my three kids and I love seeing them drag them around the house to keep warm, or make cubbies, or become part of some mad imaginary game. Sure they took hours to make but I got so much enjoyment from that, they've already paid for themselves in that respect. Better they be enjoyed some more now because they're definitely not heirloom quality!

It's beautiful! I crave the warm, soft looking quilts you make. Do you pre-wash your flannel? I'd like to back a quilt with flannel but figure I might need to pre-wash it in case it shrinks at a different rate than the regular quilting cottons on the quilt top.

I LOVE this quilt!!! I'm such a scardy cat about washing!! I do love them all soft and squishy though!! I worry that a color will bleed so it takes me a while to get the first wash in!!

Oh, it looks so snuggly and soft!

Beautiful – made for cuddles and bound to be loved to pieces!

I love this quilt. The super subtle stripe, the minty border and the rounded corners. This is going to be well loved if it isn't already. Nicely done

Love it. I am a fan of breaking in quilts, as well. And have been known to take pics of the crisp quilt and use it as the gift card; but then launder it 2x before wrapping it up in gift paper — recipients feel like they are being given permission to really USE it!

This is sure to be well loved.
