This stack is all my ‘throw’ quilts that we use for snuggling or covering up with. One of these made by my mom, one by my daughter, and one by a friend, but the rest are the ones that I made and had to keep because I liked them best. I never know when I start a quilt if it will end up being one these that must be kept. Actually my goal is to make every quilt as though it’s one I will keep. Because then I’m not as afraid to use up my favorite fabrics and spend the extra time to make it just how I envision it should be.
As I’m making it, I think that I won’t be able to sell this one. Usually though I find that once it’s made and hung in my closet for a week or two, I get excited about the next quilt I’m making and I’m ready to sell the previous one that I loved so much.
This is necessary for me because I don’t want to have huge stacks of unused quilts in my house. (If you keep all your quilts and have huge teetering stacks of them, that’s totally fine with me!). I love sending my quilts to someone who loves them!
And that’s why I rarely give quilts as gifts. Unless the person has expressed that they really love a certain quilt. Because then I just might be delighted to give it to them. But generally I will not give quilts for gifts because I just don’t know that they really want it.
That’s also why I rather sell my quilts. I don’t sell them for top dollar. I know they still seem expensive to many people, but for the time and materials, I’m really selling them very low. And some quilters could be mad at me for that, but I do have my philosophy on that, which maybe I won’t get elaborate on today… but putting my quilts for sale at a somewhat approachable price, I can send the quilts to people who really want and love them! This makes me tremendously happy. I feel incredibly lucky to get messages from people who buy my quilts and then love them and are giving them homes…
If I give a quilt away, I feel angsty. I’m not sure if they’ll really like it. Will they be obligated to use it? A lot of people just don’t like the aesthetic of quilts and I totally get that.
If I sell a quilt, I know the person obviously wanted it because they could have just gone to the store and bought a fleecy throw for a lot less. So it makes me very very happy to sell my quilts to my dear customers! I actually almost like to do that more than keep them myself, even if I really want to keep it.
And SO if you’ve read this far… I’ve got a possible treat for you! A chance to win a quilt of mine!
Yes, that’s right! This sampler quilt that I spent HOURS hand quilting, is going to one of you. I’m not able to sell this one, and I just feel like I’ve got one too many quilts myself. So I thought why not do an old fashioned giveaway. I want to send it to someone who I know will love it.
So here’s how to win it.
- You must be a follower of my blog. So you can follow by signing up to be notified by email when I write new blog posts. OR, if you follow me with some other form of blog following, that’s fine as well.
- Write me a comment on this post telling me why you’d like this quilt, and why I should choose to send it to you.
I’ll leave this open for awhile, probably a week at least, and then I’ll choose one of you to send the quilt to! If you want to see more photos of the quilt, here’s the blog post about it.

well…. thats pretty obvious why Id like this quilt!! Anything made by my daughter is well loved by me! Try as I might, I can never really duplicate her style. . . . and then again – I do love it that her quilts go all over the world to be loved by many people. . . . so maybe it better go further away than her Mom!

oh my. I would love to own this quilt!! as long as I’ve known about you and your blog I have loved your quilts and your style. if I’m the lucky winner I will treasure this quilt and give it a very loving home:)
Missy Endicott says
I am in such awe at the beauty of the quilt and your work. I am a beginner quilter and marvel at your talent. I too have a deep love for quilts and cherish the memory of my mother and I making a tie quilt blanket when I was younger. I believe a quilt should be used to be loved. It must be used to gain memories with the future generations to gain the deep connections or it will be lost forever. So I say, pull out those quilts you have packed away for “Some Rainy Day” because it is here. The next time you are on the couch grab a quilt and a love one and snuggle.
Donna Phillipd says
I love quilts.
you do beautiful work. As a quilter , myself, I appreciate the time and effort that you put into it.

Quilts, are made of stitches of love. Every line is carefully join and form another. I love quilts, truly. It’s a sentimental thing that warmth my heart through and through. Comforting when I’m blue and brighten me up at break of day..not just the beauty. It”s an absolute endearing feel,
Debbie Albers says
That’s so sweet. I’ve never been given a quilt but I have gifted many.
Probably most memorable experience was when I took my 5 grandchildren, ages 6,7,8,9,9, to JoAnn Fabrics and let them each pick 4 or 5 yards of fabric. When we came home they drew a picture of their design.
I watched them all summer and during that time I made the quilts. I wish I could post their pictures here.
I never thought I’d make one quilt with Alica in wonderland, money, Scottie dogs & pink triangles, but I did it and my granddaughter loved it. The others were also crazy to say the least.
See you at the fabric store,
Debbie

Jeanette Molitor Russell says
Dear Nancy,
Flowers of spring, baskets waiting to be filled with good things, colours of joy and hope that dance across the quilt and bring a smile to my tired heart. Today has been a sad day caring for my very ill husband. A day when tears fell softly as I helped him eat and walk. As I chatted about the birds at the feeder and the tulips pushing their way through the cold ground, praying he’d be here to know they had bloomed. He’s blind now after the last cancer surgery things became complicated and he lost his vision. But we still have reason to laugh and be grateful each day even when tears fall. When I read about your desire to give a quilt away I thought of the love that quilt represents and how sometimes it’s being wrapped in something made with love that gives us the courage to keep loving… Even when things are hard and sad. Thank you for the joy your quilting journey gives to me. I am grateful for you and the effort you put into sharing so honestly. Thank you. Jeanette
JK says
Dear Jolene,
I was going to comment in hopes of winning your breath-taking quilt. After reading Jeanette’s comment, I can only ask you to give your quilt to her. Care-takers give so much of themselves away and they need to be cared for.
Lora Rathje says
I love that this quilt is hand quilted. You’ve given me the courage to hand quilt a top my 107 year old mother (who is alive & well) designed and pieced by hand in the late 1970’s after becoming an empty nester. I wasn’t sure where to quilt in it, but love your dense fan pattern. Her quilt blocks represent her life and deserves better than machine quilting! (Nothing against long arming, but the blocks were hand stitched.) Having cared for my husband during his difficult cancer treatments, I agree that you should give your quilt to Jeanette who is currently caretaker to her husband. The quilt you lovingly made would represent her loving caregiving. ❤️
Gail Coe says
I so agree to giving it to your mom or to Jeanette! If you have another, I have a new cabinet for the quilts I make and I have several empty spots. LOL. Blessings to you for caring so much about others. ‘I will bless you and you will be a blessing!’.
Dawn Flores says

I don’t know how you will be able to pick. I love the fact that it was hand quilted. I used to do so much sewing when I was younger and always wanted to try quilting. I have a couple of quilts my mother made that I cherish. I even have an older frayed edged quilt that my grandmother had. it’s probably over 100 years old. I have recently started subscribing to quilting sites. I think it’s time to take part in this family tradition too before it’s too late to leave these gifts to my grandchildren and great grandchildren..
A sampler like yours would be perfect at the end of my bed though.
Wishing you the best.
DYBUTLER says
Today is 18 March. It would have been my Mother’s 86th birthday. This June will mark 11 years since she transitioned. My mother always knew she wanted to start quilting when she retired. So, she started taking classes through our state’s Cooperative Extension Service. Unfortunately, she never completed a quilt. I would love to be chosen to receive your quilt because of my Mother’s emerging love for the art of quilting. For me, it’s just that simple. Thank you!
Liz says
I agree with your post whole-heartedly. I do gift quilts but only if I know someone well and feel they’d love it. I donate several and I keep too many, often donating or gifting after I’ve cherished it long enough. I also sell for low prices, same reason. this one’s a beauty!!
Mary J Helpern says
I have become the keeper of family treasures, have restored some items, and am completing my first hand sewen quilt for my grand daughters. I also do embroidery and counted cross stitch, I am well aware of the many hours and love invested in each of your quilts! Best Wishes, Mary
Linda S Bowers says
What a beautiful sentiment! I love that bond of mother and daughter! I took up quilting during the pandemic after losing both parents 4 mnths apart hoping it would help me through the grieving process. It has been great therapy! I’m not near as gifted as you or most of the quilters but I’m still sewing along with my best friend and mentor, Jacky, who is a long time beautiful quilter. I would love the quilt for its craftsmanship but mainly for its mother daughter bond! Your work truly is exquisite!
Brenda Atkinson says
I have been quilting for about 26 years and my daughter, who will be 40 in 1 week began quilting with me when she was 18. It is so fun to have something we enjoy doing together. I make about 15 quilts a year and I. keep them all until the novelty wears off, then I give them to a good home.
I am warming the world one quilt at a time.
Terry Turner says
its a lovely quilt. I especially like the colors. Im a novice quilter as I have alot to learn still but Im ok with that. I like to think I’m putting my creative side to work. I get my inspiration from watching videos. Caregiving is rewarding but stressful and quilting is a hobby I enjoy…. it keeps my mind in a good place.
Becky Adams says
Dear Nancy,
Sampler quilts are a favorite of mine. After a visit to Homestead National Park I made a sampler Quilt from the Quilts on the trail.
Your sampler quilt is beautiful.
I also hand quilt and love the feel and texture of each stitch!
I gift comfort throw quilts to friends and family sick or grieving. One way to spread love.
Sara Brankaer says
I hope you win!!!
Claudia says
I’d love to have a quilt made by someone else. I’m usually the one who makes quilts for myself and others. But I have never before received one. Of course I know that you didn’t make this quilt especially for me but knowing how much love and thought you have put into this quilt it nearly feels as if it were made for me. And that is simply beautiful to know. I’d be very happy about it. Thank you for offering. Greetings from Germany
Marian says
Love this quilt, the variety in the blocks is so interesting and they are still cohesive.
Pat Price says
I really love this quilt. I made a similar one and my grand daughters (adults) all want it. I guess I should draw names. I don’t really collect other people’s quilts, but this one really caught my eye.
Sandy Derryberry says
Oh Jolene!! I would not only love your quilt but would treasure it as a prized possession. I have shared before that I serendipitously stumbled across your blog during the mandatory shutdowns of 2020. How your beautiful and eclectic style immediately grabbed me. How your use of color and fabric choices seemed magical. (It still does) I have followed you and drooled over your beautiful quilts ever since. The thought of being gifted one…wow!
Know that if you choose to send it here, I will dance for joy.
Thank you for this opportunity,
Sandy Derryberry

I would love that quilt. they are my colors. and we finally finally finally have a home and house we can paint and this quilt would be perfect in it. if I don’t win, do you have a link to those that you do sell?
Stephanie Mullin says
I would be Absolutely thrilled to get one of your quilts!!! I would use it and love it!! I love making quilts and especially the hand quilting part! So therapeutic for me- most of the quilts I make are for loved ones- sometimes someone who is hurting physically or emotionally- sometimes the one who keeps it all inside but you just know- I thing newborn babies all deserve a quilt and those are my favorite- quilts are a sacred gift that I feel God has given me to share with others- a hug from Him. Love Stephanie
Andrea says
I would love to have one of your quilts! Someday I hope to buy one but it might be when my kids are older :).
I really appreciate that you have shared so much of your thought process on colors on different posts.
Dana says
M, me, me, me, me. I loves all quilts.
Peggy H says
I have followed you for many years and always feel inspired by your posts. I sew and have made quilt tops and usually donate them to other groups to finish. they are then donated to non- profits. I belong to a senior sewing group called ” Silver Threads”. Everyone makes what they can and then the items are donated. Since I feel my quilting skills still need some work, I would love it if you chose me to receive your quilt. I could then choose to donate it to one of the non- profits we work with. Thank you!
Kathy L says
I absolutely love quilts! I switch out the quilts in my house weekly. None of them go for long without being used. I am a voracious reader. My favorite thing to do is curl up on the sofa with a cup of tea, a book, and be wrapped in a quilt! I have a couple that were given to me, a few I’ve purchased and a few I’ve made myself. The quilt you are offering is beautiful! I don’t have any sampler quilts. It would be a welcomed addition to my collection. Plus, I love the green border and backing. Green is my favorite color. Thank you for the generous gift!
Carla Fawcett says
Wow! That’s very generous of you. I have been a follower for years and years. I’ve always loved your quilting style. You are an inspiration! I adore all the different blocks in this quilt and of course the quilting ❤️
Laura Dirks says
I adore this quilt! Love that you’re giving it away! I could give it a very loving home here in Missouri 😉

Karin says
Ah Jo! You have been such an encouragement to me in quilting. I so relate to you in giving quilts away…… will they like them? will they want to use them? But I would love a quilt from you because it is made by you and it is beautiful!
Loree Wohlgemuth says
I’d like your quilt in my living room. So many children, so many books, and not enough snuggle-quilts in there.
Lexi Toews says
I always tell people that I love your quilts like some people love paintings. I just love looking at every detail. They are amazing works of art. My first quilt of yours was a gift upon the birth of my second child, who is six now, and even though it’s a baby size I have it out in our living room for cuddling with. I still love to trace the hand stitched bishop fan pattern with my fingers as I sit with my kiddos. That quilt has graced six of our homes over the last nine years. The other children’s quilts are just as cherished. I’d love to win your quilt to be a blessing and bring comfort in our soon to be seventh home as we make the daunting move to Saskatchewan. There is no better gift than one of your quilts!
Rita Calloway says
I would use this quilt as inspiration for a group of new quilters I am trying to teach at my local RSVP chapter,{Retired Senior Volunteer Program}.They started out wanting to learn hand quilting and with that accomplished now they are interested in the process of piecing and applique. Your quilt would be an excellent example of those techniques, plus I would cherish it for myself!
Birgit Knutsen says
I love the traditional blocks and hand stitching combined with more modern fabric – the strawberries sing to me! It’s beautiful.
Joni Z says
I love the color that fills your quilts. In a world that seems to trend to neutral, they’re happy glimpses of joy. If this quilt found it’s home with me, it would be well loved by all. I know the time & care that goes into a well-made hand quilted blanket♡ I admire the way you seem to prioritize your time into your hobby.
Lana Koehn says
A quilt made by you would be an absolute treasure! Love this quilt and it even has baskets and it actually doesn’t bother me! That’s saying a lot coming from me right!😂 Lana
Debi says
I am new to sewing, only a few months and I am about to undertake a 3 day ‘learn to quilt workshop’. This quilt is an inspiration to me and what I would love to be able to do one day…,
I love how it has many different parts that just come together beautifully.
Jennifer says
I love the green. I would ask you for this quilt just for that green border, which was the first thing I noticed in the picture. I was then so delighted to read in your blog post that you loved that green fabric too.
But I don’t think you should give me this quilt. I have quilts that I have made hidden away in closets and your quilt is too beautiful to end up in a closet, so give it to someone who really needs it and will use it all the time and especially who will treasure a beautiful hand-quilted sampler.
Also, I live very far away and the shipping would cost a fortune. AND I hope to make many more quilts one day, as soon as my youngest grows up a little bit more and I figure out how to work a little less. (Maybe I need a time management consultant too)
Anyway, I just wanted to write a comment to let you know how lovely this quilt is and how lovely you are for giving it away!
Debora Kellogg says
I am a long time follower and admirer of your talent. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on giving away quilts and selling at an approachable prices. I have only given quilts to family who love my work. And struggle regarding how to best sell the others. You have given me food for thought. I would be thrilled to be selected to receive your lovely sampler quilt. Hand quilting makes is special. Many thanks Debora
Jill Hood says
I’ve been following you ever since I first saw one of your quilts! I just turned 77 the other day and have sold my house. So downsizing my furniture and belongings. I have given away some of my hooked rugs and other ‘treasures’ to friends and it really feels good to lighten the load. I am going to live with my daughter and we hope to build a granny cottage in her yard if the red tape doesn’t strangle the idea. I am excited about having a little nest of my own but being within reach of my children. Your sampler quilt is so lovely, I hope whoever receives it will enjoy it’s beauty and comfort.
Jenn Haynes says
wow, Jolene! how generous of you to give away a quilt that you have poured hours of love and talent into! and to know that it will go to someone that wants it…. like, really bad! I would feel extremely honored if you would choose me as the recipient of this gorgeous quilt! my friends would know immediately that I had not made it, therefore it would be a great way to introduce you to everyone that asked about it. I can’t wait to hear who will be the lucky one!
Nellie Nolt says
I would just love to give a quilt made by you a home! 😍
Linda Cowell says
Well, I’m not one to come up with clever things to say and get your attention. Yes, I am a quilter. And yes, I have made many, many quilts and given away many many quilts. Have I ever been gifted a quilt? No, and don’t anticipate it. Wouldn’t it be great, though.
I’m sure whomever you give it to will be thrilled and very happy. Have a happy day filled with smiles.
Marie Ireland says
I love all your quilts because they are Canadian & scrappy. I make scrappy quilts too but have carpal tunnel at moment so am resting reading quilt books. I need a hug because we lost our 23yr old granddaughter on weekend after a 9 yr battle with anorexia & she was accepted to medical school recently. Her birthday was first day of spring & her freckles were beautiful. beside all that, with a name like Ireland I love the green fabric.
Sherrie says
Dear Marie, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful granddaughter. Sending hugs your way as you deal with this unfathomable loss.

Sara Brankaer says
I’m so sorry for your loss. How awful to lose a young woman like that… A big hug across the ocean from Belgium
Janet Kelley says
I’m learning how to quilt recently and have been giving most of them away to a charity that serves elderly people. Your quilt would be a wonderful donation to someone in need who would truly appreciate the handwork and warmth it provides
Polly Mertz says
Thank you so much for the opportunity to win your quilt. I first saw it a week or so ago and was so drawn to your color choices and variety of the blocks. I have never had or created a hand quilted quilt. I especially love the block in the lower right hand corner……..reminds me of some blocks I started years ago. I for sure need to take a look at those again. Your quilt is full of joy and love. It definitely has a story. Thanks for inspiring me.
Laura says
I just love your quilt style and blog. I lost track of the blog and recently came across it and am so happy to rediscover it. Your quilts are charming.
Bonnie Coleman says
I follow your blog because you are different from a lot of other quilt bloggers and I like that. As a quilter, I don’t enjoy following strict rules…even patterns. The freedom of color selection and form is exciting…and so I never buy kits. I really enjoy your odd color combinations…..lots of darks together, etc. and have saved some photos of those to use as inspiration. Also, your closeup photos are very good….fibers!, I studied Clothing and Textiles at UGA (long time ago) and have always been a textile lover…as well as quilter. So I would love to win the quilt!
Keep on blogging and sharing creativity😁👏👏
Brandy says
I loved hearing your perspective on selling your quilts. I exclusively give my quilts away as gifts, for year hardly keeping any. Now I find myself with all the loved people in my life with quilts and an unsure what to do with them all now. It would be nice to find my hobby/therapy with sales.
Your fellow Albertan, Brandy
Gail Boggs says
Love this quilt from top to bottom! The color choices are perfect and as an aspiring quilter this quilt would inspire me to learn some new techniques! You can also be assured I would take top-notch care of your quilt from laundering to folding on the bias ( a new technique I just learned). Finally, I would love to snuggle under your quilt while relaxing watching my favorite show–Call the Midwife. Pick me ❤️
Carmen Litwiller says
oh wow! how amazing and generous to give away this gorgeous quilt ❤️ I absolutely love it and would be delighted to give it a loving home 😉
Kate F. says
If I won this quilt, I would absolutely cherish it! I love quilts but I am not much of a sewist. I knit constantly. If I won this, I could only accept it if I could give you one of my handknit shawls in return. It is only right. Your work is such an inspiration. I love seeing what you do.
Monique says
I have always admired your quilts and the casual and cosy feel they exude. After a few years of quilting, I lost steam when a lot of life started happening. Recently, I have been re-inspired by quilters like yourself who infuse love and care into your creations for everyday use. I look forward to trying out some of the quilts in your new book and would love to own one of your handmade creations. Thank you for the inspiration and opportunity!
Deborah Hobbs says
I love the calmness of this quilt and would love to snuggle under it.

Dear Jolene,
How kind of you to want to give one of your gorgeous quilts away!
I have been following your blog for years and love your style. I have “copied” one of your quilts and it is one of my favorites. Seriously. I admire how you use treasured fabrics and finish your quilts yourself. You have encouraged me be a more creative quilter and not worry about “perfection”. Thank you for being an inspiration!
Erin says
Your blog is so inspiring, and I’ve been in awe of each quilt you make. I’m tickled pink that you are so fond of hand stitching and using vintage/antique machines.
Thank you for offering to give away this marvelous quilt. What a treasure it will be to the recipient! I love that it’s scrappy and full of surprises. I do marvel at how you can coordinate colors, as that is something I always struggle with in most scrappy quilt.
Thank you for the time you spend inspiring us with your talents.
Carol Omer says
I wants this quilt because it looks so beautifully snuggly! I love that green and all of the hand stitching gives it so much texture! I will love it and no call it a blanket :).
Nancy B says
I love this quilt, as I do all of your other quilts as well. There’s something about the colors and fabric combinations that they just call to me. This is so generous of you, if it comes my way I would use and treasure it as if coming from a dear friend. That’s how I feel when I see a new blog post of yours, like a newsy note from a friend!
Charlotte Becker says
Wow, just amazing!! I have often admired your quilts! I love your color combinations, the jewel tones. Also I feel I’m quite an amateur as far as the world of quilts are concerned, but it’s a favorite hobby to see other peoples talents brought forth in quilts. love this quilt!! Even if I don’t receive it I will have enjoyed seeing it here. Thanks, Jolene.

Your quilts are inspiring to me. I admire how you combine fabrics. Also, who wouldn’t appreciate a quilt made by someone else.
Elizabeth Di Battista says
I would love to receive this quilt. I would not keep it for myself, although I would love to. I have a friend who is going through a difficult time and I’m positive that she would appreciate it. Everything about this quilt screams comfort and love. It’s beautiful.
Catherine Hogan says
I’ve already got one of your quilts–rather a photo of one. I don’t remember when or how I happened on it online and went to a lot of trouble wrangling around to get it into place, enlarged on my desktop background so I can see it every day when I open my laptop. I spent hours/days trying to figure it out–I think it’s a combination of nine-patch and half-square triangles which ends of looking like (but not actually are) some Irish chain ancestors sprinkled in, and it doesn’t matter anyway since I’ll never try to duplicate it. I love looking at it and to me, it is the Mona Lisa of quilts.
Abby says
Wow, how exciting! It’s a beautiful quilt and I’d love to own it but you blog and now book (I’ve been pouring over it the last couple weeks) have been the biggest inspiration. I remember realizing that you were using some popular fabric I had in my own stash but had made it look so authentic and real. I LOVED that! I used to only consider color but last year made a small penny patch quilt using your little tutorial and included quite a bit of black fabric (something totally outside of the norm for me) and have been having so much fun playing with value now too. I’ve even started thinking “maybe I should start a quilt blog” because I can’t get enough of your posts. 😀 I’m working on a sailboat quilt from your book now. 🙂
Maureen McCarthy (Mo10471) says
I have admired your quilts since I started following you on Bloglovin many years ago. I have tried to replicate your style many times but although lovely not quite there yet. Your book will provide much needed guidance.
If your mom doesn’t win the quilt I would cherish it. ♥️

This is so generous! My goodness I would love to hang your quilt in my sewing room to admire, and inspire me as I work on my own quilts.
Also, I’m really enjoying your book, and am happy to know you will be working on another.

A beautiful work of art! I would treasure it. Samplers are a favorite of mine there’s so much to enjoy about them. If it came here it might take trips to a cottage on an island . Coffee on the Bay of Fundy, Or a nap at home.
Heidi Selig says
That you give away a quilt of such beauty knocks me out, and reminds me that love and connection are why we’re here. I struggle to break out of some rigid quilting rules I’ve absorbed unintentionally, and this sampler inspires me to let things happen again. Your color sense warms my heart and feels like me. I guess as a cancer patient I want to be cozied all the time and the quilts I make and struggle to make, don’t always please me the way yours do. Its as if you have a magic sense of hominess that my soul, or spirit feels. I’ve followed you for so long, but I can still remember the first quilt I saw of yours and how you’ve grown as a maker.
Patricia Doucet says
Wow! I am 68 years young. I think the little girl in me is flipping out hoping to receive this lovely quilt. I’ve never received a quilt. My Mom had an unfinished quilt top my great grandmother had made. It was a postage stamp scrappy one. I was in early grade school when it caught my attention. I remember it lying in a heap in the closet. Lots of colors. My great grandmother had traveled from Kansas to Oregon around 1880 when she was a girl. She became a midwife practicing in Oregon City. At any rate ,
one of our cats had kittens on the quilt top. My Mom really didn’t know the value to our family of such a piece and regrettably threw the top out! Besides knowing all the creative effort, the story and personhood that goes into a quilt, I too find myself qualifying the receivers of my creative efforts!
Pat in WNY says
What fun, both the giving and the receiving by some fortunate follower! I’ve loved your soft and comfy style for several years and especially like the pops of color in the various blocks of this newest sampler. I’m a member of a small quilting ministry group at our church, so most of my quilts over the past few years have been donated to several causes we support. I’d love to win your quilt to display (and use!) on the back of my recliner where handquilting is done most evenings. Thanks for your generosity!
Rebecca Sloane says
I think your sampler quilt is beautiful and I would be honoured to have it. The fact that you have hand quilted it makes it very, very special. I am about to start hand quilting a smallish quilt that is my first improvisational quilt. I feel very daunted, but if I had your quilt here, I would have inspiration every day to remind me what I’m trying to do. I love the colours you use and have been following your quilts and blog for awhile… very inspiring, joyful work. Thank you for offering to give away something that took you many hours to do. That is truly a generous act and something we’re not used to seeing much these days. You are unique among quilters and human beings!

Devout follower of your blog ever since. Absolutely sure this quilt wants to live in a southern living room! Oh my, how are you ever going to pick a winner? I LOVE your STYLE and your BOOK! I love old QUILTS that are worn and cozy. If I got your quilt, I’d try hard NOT to brag to my girls (Laurie and Jennifer) that I actually owned one of your creations!
Angela says
Such beautiful workmanship and talent. I too have given away quilts that I have made to touch someone’s life or just because I thought they needed a quilt to snuggle. We never know when we make a difference, whether large or small.
I’ve never been on the receiving end of a hand crafted quilt but whoever wins they will be ecstatic for sure!
Keep Quilting and Making A Difference!

Hi Jolene,
I’ve followed your blog for years. I truly love your quilts and your quilt philosophy.
I’d be honoured to have one of your quilts to snuggle under.
Becky Garrett says
I love that you are sharing your love of quilts. You inspire me to pay it forward by also donating a quilt to my favorite nonprofit. North Carolina Coastal Conservation Assoc.to protect our oceans and the resources in them!
Thank you for caring about people through your love of quilts!

If I were given the opportunity to meet you for coffee or to receive this quilt, I would choose to meet you for coffee. That, most unfortunately, is not a reality, so the next best thing would be to win your beautiful quilt. The green is eye catching, the pattern a delight, but it’s the hand quilting that I would admire the most. I certainly can make my own quilts, but I’ve never made a sampler nor hand quilted a quilt, so it would be unique amongst the ones I’ve made for myself. What a fun give away!
Diana Manwarring says
Love your quilts. They are my ‘go to’ when I want to see uniqueness. They are absolutely exquisite in their charm, warmth, and everything else that means they are just what everyone who follows you on your blog wants to have in their lives. Brilliant talent. Inspirational. What more can I say. To have one of your quilts on my lounge would be a joy to behold. What more could one wish for. You are spreading joy with your talent and generosity.. Thank you from everyone Jolene.

Thanks for you quilt eye candy…love it!

I love the way this quilt makes me feel (cosy, calm, quiet, happy), and for that alone I would love to receive it. But I think your mother deserves to receive it.
Jan Barkley says
Jolene,
I have admired your quilts and your style for awhile. I love your choices of fabrics and colors. As soon as you published your book I had to order one. Quilting is my happy place and this past year was a tough one for me but following you has inspired me to quilt more and remember the joy in quilting. I would love to have one of your quilts. If I win this quilt I promise to love and cherish it!
Warmly,
Jan

This is incredibly generous of you! It would be such an honor to give this quilt a loving home. I’m a retired bag maker. I had to close up my shop about 5 yrs ago, 2 yrs after I developed MS as I could t keep up with orders anymore. I decided I would learn to quilt and that was when I came across your blog and fell in love with your work. I’ve only been able to make one quilt, for my son, as my hands don’t play nice anymore, lol. But I still love to dream and I get so excited when I see there’s an email notice that you have a new blog post!
Whether I am the lucky recipient or not, I am grateful for all you share with your readers.
Gloria Mcmillen says
I would love the quilt , for me each block represents possibly a thought you had a person you know or even a period in your life you made with color and fabric. A certainly keepsake to love ❤️.
Chris Rutkowski says
This is very generous of you. I am the exact opposite, I don’t sell my quilts, but I do give them away (mostly to children who seem to know that I sew all my love and good wishes for them into my designs and fluffiness). I don’t want to be considered for this one, but I do want you to know that I have several quilts in various stages inspired by your blog.
Margaret Chapman says
Hi Jolene,
I have long been a great admirer of your quilts, especially your use of colour. I have made two (currently working on a hollow star one) but I come nowhere near the feeling I get when I see one of your quilts! I would love to give this quilt an honoured place in my home.
Jayne says
I fell in love with this quilt the first time I saw your first blog post about it! I think it’s the colors and the flowers that speak to me! would be honored to have a quilt from my dear school friend!
Susan Heikkinen says
I would love this quilt so much! The only one I own is small and has seen better days, but it travels the road with me and knows and is a part of all my stories. There is something about a home made quilt that is like no other. You know that it is made by someone who enjoys the work of creating a beautiful treasure and work of art. It becomes part of your family and gives you a sense of security that can’t be bought. I would love to make this quilt a part of my family
Pat K says
Wow! What a beautiful quilt. Of course, I should be the one you choose to gift it to.😊. You have an amazing God given talent. The quilts I make are very simple and given to loved ones who have expressed an interest in receiving them. I have never attempted a sampler, especially one like this. If I am the lucky one, I will cherish it always.
Suzanne says
I was so fortunate to come across your blog today. Your words and the work on your quilt are so authentic, warm and beautiful. Your love of quilting shows. I would be honored to win your cherished artwork. Thank you.

I love your quilts! I love your style! I’ve been following you for a number of years and have even made a few quilts using yours as inspiration. Your work is stunning. that is one awesome quilt! anyone would be lucky to receive it! you should choose me because I almost gasped when I saw it!!!! it’s lovely!!!
Grace says
This quilt is oozing with love and details. It beautifully displays two of my favorite colors, blue and orange. The old fashioned feeling of the sampler is a delightful nod to the past, while the colors and border are tribute to the present. Magnificent, Jo.
Catherine says
I love this quilt and your color choice. I would be honored to win it especially since you hand quilted it. Thanks for the chance.
Anne says
This quilt is so charming and beautiful! I love ❤️ to have it in my life. Thank you for the opportunity to win.
Becky says
I would love to be gifted your beautiful quilt. The fabric is beautiful and the pattern is lovely. Mostly, it feels so comfortable with all of the hand quilting. (I also love to hand quilt.) Thank you for the generous offer.
I was especially appreciative of your honest reasoning for selling quilts and not feeling totally comfortable gifting them. I have often gifted quilts that I later wondered whether the recipient really loved it or wanted it or appreciated it. As you pointed out, not everyone loves quilts. And I never want to give halfway. I want to give wholeheartedly and have the recipient love it! I’ve never considered selling a quilt. But like you, I want my quilts to be used and loved. Thank you for sharing your perspective. Something for me to ponder.
Pam Gonterman says
I have loved quilts for many years. I have been teaching my 9 year old granddaughter how to piece small quilt tops and I machine quilt them for her. We also have a 10 yo granddaughter that isn’t interested. I was also teaching our 4 yo grandson to sew until we lost him to flu/pneumonia in 2022. I have completed a quilt and donated it to a group that will raffle it and the money will go to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville Kentucky. I think quilts should be loved and used.
Lori says
Can you believe how many people love the quilts you create! That’s gotta make you feel good. Your quilts are very creative and look so cuddly. Who loves a quilt more than a quilter? no one. I have made many quilts and given many quilts away, to friends, family, QOV and Sharehouse (a drug and alcohol rehabilitation residency). You get a real feel good feeling when giving. You are incredibly generous. Thank you for a chance to win. I would love your quilt to death.
Judy Lamb says
I really like your sample. I am a quilter who has to stop for a while as I became caregiver to my 97 year old partner of 36 years. It has been good but I have missed the hum of the machine and the quietness of the needle. He now is cold all the time and my lap tops are not quite snuggly enough for his full body. I have in the past given quilts to family members but stopped as I found not everyone gives them the care they need. Or may not even use them; as they think they will be better off on a closet shelf then wrapped around a loved one. I know and appreciate all the work that goes into every quilt regardless of time or cost. And I think this Sampler is one he would love knowing it was made with appreciation and love for the Love of quilting for real people.
Betty Krueger says
I would be over the moon to receive your quilt. It would be a treasured addition to my home.
Thank you for your consideration.

The quilt angels have smiled on me as I am again able to access your blog after having so many issues! Your sampler is beautiful and expresses so many feelings. I would use and cherish this quilt as long as possible if chosen as the lucky winner-Thank You so much for the opportunity!
Lynn Caylor says
i love anything someone has made. I love this quilt! I’ve never quilted (except for a doll quilt that I made backwards) but I want to learn.
Tracy Watson says
I love sewing and am a beginner quilter. I’m teaching my granddaughters, 16, 11, and 11 how to sew. If I were to win your gorgeous quilt I would use it to snuggle up to these girls and watch movies together, then pass it on to one of them one day. You do amazing work!
Annette Isaac says
Ohh this quilt is sooo beautiful! Loved it the first time I saw it…I especially like sampler quilts!
Susan R Riley says
I promise to give that beauty a good home. She will be treated with almost as much love as the creator put into her stitch by stith.
She will be a family heirloom with a wonderful story of love joy and happiness everytime she is cuddled and caressed.
Rosamond Blakeney says
I love this quilt.. but when I read your Mum’s comments I think she deserves it more.. my Mum loves all the quilts I have given her and uses them everyday so please give it to your Mum no one deserves it more!
Bonnie J Craycraft says
There’s a lot of nice comments of why each would like to win this quilt. The only reason I can give is it’s beautiful & don’t think I’ve ever won anything before. I have a couple of my mom’s quilts that need to be rebound. I’ve mainly sewn garments & afraid I’ll ruin their looks. Arthritis in my fingers doesn’t allow me to do much sewing anymore. You do beautiful work. God bless.
Cathy Springer says
I am teaching myself to make quilts and I enjoy making each one. I have done mostly baby quilts and hope that I am learning more with each one and doing better as I try new new techniques. I have taught myself other crafts and enjoy the challenges. I would be honored to have a quilt you made and I would cherish it knowing the time and love you have put into creating this beautiful work of art. Thank you for your time and good luck choosing someone as you have many entries that all sound as if they would love your quilt❣️
Nancy says
I’ve been following your blog for years, maybe since I first began my own quilt blog. I follow on Feedly.
When you first posted photos of this quilt I realized it was one I wanted to study. I think the blocks first caught my attention, but then the colors and how you used them, their placement, variety, etc., held my attention even longer. I opened the photo in a new tab and have had it open for days and days, looking at and studying the quilt each day. To be able to see it in person would be amazing. It’s a beautiful quilt, its beauty added to by your attention in the creating of it and by your hand quilting.
You’re so generous to offer this to one of your readers. Thank you for that. Someone will be very, very happy!
Tanya Mace says
I am still fairly new to quilting… and it has become a huge passion of mine. I also love and enjoy other people’s quilts… it’s a piece of them, an expression of their heart and creative soul. I’d love to have this quilt with your story behind it! I would display it along with some I’ve made, bought and restored… all part of a stream of quilting life.
Callie says
Hello Jolene,
What a lovely, generous gesture! You create beautiful quilts with a signature style that is hard to define. One is drawn to study the details of each quilt trying to figure out exactly why it is so appealing. My favorite parts of your 2024 Sampler quilt are the interesting mix of fabrics (Denyse, Kaffe, Ruby mixed with more traditional fabrics), the variety of block styles and the hand quilting. I especially love the red strawberries, the new york beautyish block and the olive border.
Your blog post articulates my own feelings exactly about keeping, giving and selling quilts. Quilts should be used!
I am enjoying your journal/book so much that I gifted a copy to my sister. I love the tall ships block. Such an original idea!
Kind regards,
Wanda Flory says
I’d love to win a quilt. I used to quilt only donated or gave as gifts. I have Parkinson now and shake too much to quilt anymore.
Lisa Mittleman says
Dear Jolene,
I’ve always been crafty but only recently started quilting again. I made a baby quilt for my son when I was pregnant with him. It was all sewn by hand. In the years since I got a sewing machine and made Halloween costumes for my kids, did simple mending, etc. My kids are now grown and flown and I’ve returned to quilting. So, the algorithm led me to you!
I love the design of your quilt and the fabric, and colors! But what I love most is the hand stitching. It seems to be more special to me!
I’d love to be considered for your giveaway! I have the perfect spot in our family cabin where it can be enjoyed by generations of family and friends.
Thank you!
Lisa
Skyler Beber says
Oh, this is so stunning and so generous!!
I’ve just gotten my first apartment, and I have a stunning lack of house lounge/throw blankets and quilts, and not enough time and space right now to make any! This is so gorgeous. And would be perfect at my sewing station in the front room.
I love to craft and love to sew and love quilting, my great grandmother taught me almost a decade ago and I’ve made several since, but I have much less time now that I’m out of school to spend on quilting.
I love the hand stitched details, they make a project feel so intimate and loved. I don’t find myself hand stitching often due to genetic joint issues it’s too much on my hands most days, but hand stitching is just… the little detail that makes so much difference in my opinion.
I love this, and I wish well the lucky recipient! I’m excited to have discovered your blog, all of your work looks amazing!
Joanne Ford says
What a wonderful quilt and a generous gift for someone! I’d love it to adorn my new sewing space. It will inspire me and decorate the room beautifully.
Gina van Efferen says
Your quilts are very special and I am a great admirer. I taught myself patchwork and quilting and your blog and tutorials were very important. Your use of color is especially beautiful. Anyway if I won this quilt I would probably pass it on to my daughter-in-law who is going through a very difficult time. This quilt might offer her some comfort and warmte.
Sandra Rocca says
have loved your stule for years and am so glad you’re blogging again!!
would love to add this iconic to my collection! it would be a cozy addition to my couch where I probably would snuggle with it on my lap while making my own quilt with my kitty cat! thanks for the chance
Cindy Hoback says
My friend Jo has been teaching me to quilt! My first one was a Quilt of Valor made for my husband using his old Navy and Seabee uniforms. It was far from perfect but he, our children and grandchildren cried when we presented it. I have completed three quilts for our grandchildren and making one now for one of our guest rooms at our Bed and Breakfast, Wolf Creek Farm! If chosen to win your lovely quilt, I would use it one of our guest beds and make a special framed notice of the quilt designer (YOU)! And pass along your information so others would like to purchase one of your awesome creations!
Joanne E Semanie says
I just finished building my weaving studio and this quilt just speaks to me in design and color. it would be used and loved.

I gift quilts all the time, but your viewpoint makes me stop and think. What’s not to love about this quilt! Your aesthetic is so calm and beautiful. I follow you on Feedly, but also signed up for email. I enjoy your blog posts.

Well, this is huge to do a giveaway of this quilt! I’d love to give your quilt a home ♥️
Je’Tua Amos says
I would love to win this quilt because it reminds me of the quilts my MeMaw used to make. Sadly, they were destroyed by fire when I was a child and I don’t have anything to remember her by. Even if I don’t win, your work is beautiful and gave me a happy glimpse of my childhood.
Lisa says
I am new to quilting and am loving it. I subscribed to your blog and am looking forward to learning more from you. I would love to have the quilt in my home. I would be using it to keep warm on chilly days 😃 It looks like you do a great job!
Stacey L Burch says
I totally love hand quilted quilts. when possible I finish mine by hand. Every stitch is done with love. I am trying to finish one now that I started for Christmas, and my hand started bothering me, them it really hurt and Dr says arthritis. unsure if, when I finish that quilt, it’ll be the last one. physical therapy has been scheduled. I save patterns, want to do wedding quilts for grandchildren, so many beautiful patterns and colors and dreams, and I have soooo much fabric. this sampler quilt has great colors, springtime patterns and gorgeous classic designs. I would be honored to have it in my home.
Karen Hamilton says
It’s a beautiful quilt, I would love to have it! I have been reading your blog for years, I finally became a follower earlier this year. You make fantastic quilts, I always love your color choices.
Robin Haupt says
Your quilt is magnificent. Anyone would be fortunate to have that or any of your quilts. To me, quilts are treasures, to be cherished, loved, hold all the family connections and keep them always.
Anne O'Brien Carelli says
I coordinate gathering of handmade quilts from quilters who donate them for resettled refugees who have arrived in our area with absolutely nothing. The families are always overwhelmed when they receive them (especially because so many come from warm climates) and love having something of their own. I would donate this quilt to a family that just arrived after a harrowing journey from Afghanistan. TY
Cindy Stillwaggon says
Oh my goodness … I absolutely love this quilt. I am a beginner and have stayed with pretty easy patterns so far. Right now I’m making a Christmas quilt to gift my niece for a wedding gift. I really hope she loves it and treasures it … just as I would treasure your quilt, if I’m blessed enough to win it!
Pamela says
I am commenting on this post, not with an expectation of being chosen to receive the quilt, but feeling like you are reading all these posts to make your choice so I could send you a message! I took to quilting later in life. You have taught me the most about what kind of quilter I want to be, Each morning I read the NYTimes online and then pull up your website to see if anything is new. It is my routine. You are the quilting voice in my head. I have learned from you to experiment and to do what I like. Modify, adapt, add, and take away to make each quilt my own. Make quilts as if I am going to keep each one. Spend 1 hour each day in the sewing room and I will accomplish much. Embrace my favorite fabrics. You have a wonderful voice in sharing about your family, your thought processes, and your vulnerabilities around writing your book which is a wonderful book. I did a deep dive trying to find the pattern you used for the sampler quilt here and as you said it doesn’t appear to be available. I am inspired to make something similar by combining patterns, Bottomline….I wanted to say thank you for sharing and to let you know you have a real impact on your community.
Jules Marvin says
Hi, It’s a beautiful quilt. I already love your quilts. I made your Tree Quilt from your book as a gift and he lived it. One of my quilt in process is your Hollow Stars Quilt in rich metalic Christmas fabric. I would love to have one of your actual quilts. Jules
Kathy Turner says
I would love to start making quilts. My Great grandmother made them. I can remember as a little girl the loom thing hanging from the bedroom ceiling. Years later my Grandfather would sit at my Moms kitchen table with his sewing machine and make them. He was in his 80’s. I still have a few. That was 20 yrs ago. I prefer a good old quilt over any kind of cover. My bed comforter is quilted. Brings back so many memories and generations. Alot of time went into the sewed by hand quilts and would have to have meaning to each one. Yours are beautiful and you have put many hours in making them. Anyone should appreciate a precious homemade gift no matter what it is.
Megan Wenger says
I’m utterly curious why you can’t sell this quilt, as you had it originally listed for sale. It’s beautiful and precious!
I would love to receive this quilt to gift to my sister who is pregnant with a much hoped-for, but thought might never happen, second baby. She and her little family are in the process of moving back to California after years and years of living in Singapore. I would love to share a quilt with her (they will feel so cold living in Northern CA after humid Singapore), but I am way too slow at finishing things to get it done in time. This one would be perfect for her and much loved and appreciated.
Patricia Grice says
It is beautiful. I love to quilt but I would never deserve such a beautiful quilt. Thanks for making it so many people can enjoy viewing it. It inspires me to continue.
Jojo says
I think it is very generous of you to offer this quilt. Hubby and I love handmade quilts and are always looking for them at yard sales and thrift stores. I would love to purchase one from a quilter but sadly they are just out ofy budget.I love the fact that they just get softer with use and time. I would love to win this quilt to gift to Hubby for him to use in his recliner!
Veronica Allen says
I have found that I can easily give a quilt to someone who wants it if I take a good picture of it either with that person or writing their name on the back. The only ones that are difficult to part with are the hand quilted ones. Your work is spectacular!!!!!!
Kristine says
I absolutely love this quilt, the workmanship is phenomenal. I would use this quilt as an inspiration to improve my own quilting. I only began quilting about 10 years ago and became addicted. I have more fabric than a lot of fabric stores and yes, I have a huge pile of quilts I couldn’t get rid of, but none as beautiful as this sampler. I would be so honored if you selected me for this amazing quilt!
Cindy Smith says
I also give my quilts away if I think they will truly appreciate a handmade item. I don’t have the skills but would treasure a hand-pieced quilt.
Charlene J LaPrade says
I would cherish this quilt. I’ve always loved hand made items since I was a child. i don’t expect I’ll be piced to win this beautiful quilt, but of I was it would be loved. I feel each and every stitch put onto the quilts as a piece of love and amazement. The history and the beauty of the art is to be cherished.
Blue Gate Farmgirl says
Such a lovely sampler. Your quilts speak to me! For many years as I pull fabrics I ask myself ‘WWJD” – what would Jolene do… I have never kept a quilt for myself, always giving them away to friends, family and my two favorite charities a new quilt for each bed in the local transitional veteran’s home and full sized quilts for kids transitioning out of the foster programs. For one sil I always make hand quilted gifts as she appreciates the whole process and displays them proudly. The rest of the family gets durable quilts that withstands love, life and laundering, lol..
Katherine Whitson says
Jolene, this is such a beautiful quilt and I would love to win it, obviously! I have several cousins that quilt but we all live in different states so there’s no one to teach me. I have a few quilts that I’ve been able to buy and love them all! I’m always in awe of you talented ladies that can put together such beautiful works of art!! Finger crossed 🤞!!
Rhonda Thompson says
Oh my girl Jolene that quilt is so gorgeous I’m new to your blog just found it today. Wish I had found it long long time ago my precious mother-in-law quilted her whole life she was always given quilts away. She never sold any and up until a few years before she passed, she did every quilt by hand or on the peddle machine twin to king beds I bought her an electric machine ( that beautiful woman tried to pay me , her smile was worth a million dollars) her quilts were beautiful. She tried to teach me when she was alive, but I was always too busy with my family and working. every time I see someone quilt I think about her and I start crying because I never took the time to learn from her. I’m trying to learn a little bit at a time hopefully I will make it , your quilts are beautiful. I am so glad that I accidentally found this, because I am gonna follow your blog the quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I would love to win it but if I don’t, that’s fine because God knows who it’s meant to go to ..Thank you so much for this bog and for giving me the chance to win this beautiful quilt !!!!
God Bless
Lynda says
I felt I had written this article myself. As a hand quilter learning at my great grandmother‘s knee decades ago, there is an intense appreciation for hand quilting versus machine quilting. Machine quilting is precise and beautiful but I feel a piece of each of us is in hand quilting, and that’s my preference. I would love to enjoy someone else’s quilt and I’m so glad I found you today.
Rhiannon Fenton says
I am not a quilter! However I’m obsessed with quilts! Blame my Mom quiltyfolk! I’ve always had a quilt on my bed! They are all over my house! My siblings call me the quilt thief because I’m always making deals and trades to get more quilts! They are beautiful art! I know that each quilt has a story. That they take effort and time. I love art and color! Masterpieces that are not the normal, artists who do their own thing, show their own hearts! If I were to win the quilt would be used, loved, but never disrespected or unappreciated! Your sampler quilt is beautiful! – Rhi

Oh, I would so love to have this heirloom.
The vintage look, and the large blocks fit in wit my own style.
I make quilts, and I rarely give them either! For the same reasons.
So sweet to have something some made.
Anyway, thanks so much for the kindred spirit.

My mom passed in November 2022. Me and my siblings inherited her cabin. We have old worn quilts that are much passed their time that my mom nurtured to keep. This quilt would be a lovey contribution to the cabin and in all her colors! This quilt has a homey, vintage feeling of heirloom quality. It represents a new life and transition & era to the cabin with my siblings and me owning the cabin now. The quilt is beautiful!

I would love to be included. I make quilts for charity, and as much as I’d love to keep them all, it’s heartwarming to know I helped a little. Your quilts are so fun!

I love the quilt you are offering! But even more I totally agree with the blog. I also have MY quilt stack and then those for sale. I also want people to be able to afford my quilts.

Yes please!! And hand quilted!! Most definitely. Been a quilter a long time. Don’t hand quilt though. My trusty Singer does that. I would love it and would show it off and give you all rhe credit you deserve for your amazing work. Well done!!

I have been involved with a prayer quilt ministry in south Orange County for 24 years. I love to give beautiful quilts to those who are suffering from cancer etc. I would use the quilt for that. To date we have given away over 2,800 quilts. Thank you for your consideration.
Jacqueline Gates says
I am new to quilting and tried my hand at making a few for my grandkids and they just adore them but they are all simple designs since I have to learn on my own. when I saw this quilt I was so excited about the the different ways you made the blocks. it inspired me to try some different techniques for some lap quilts that I am starting on to give to the residents at the Armed Forces Retirement home that is very near to my home. they are all way past retirement age and so many of them are wheelchair bound. I thought this was a way to give a little back to these that gave so much to our country. please consider me for that beautiful quilt that would inspire me to create, hopefully, beautiful quilts for these deserving people.
Deborah says
Oh my goodness! I LOVE this quilt! The colors , the design just gives me JOY! The label even makes me happy! Quilts, quilting, looking at quilts, reading your blog about how you feel about them gives me joy!! If I do not end up with this quilt, I will still be so happy for the person who does… but I would love to touch it, smell it , put it in my living room to gaze on and make me smile! Somehow, for His own reasons, God gave me this gift of wanting to create… quilts!! It has been a great blessing in my life for the last 10 years… yours are a Great inspiration to me! I couldn’t WAIT to open your book! Owning one of your pieces of art would be a JOY- filled honor!! Thank you for the opportunity! 🙂
Mari Stormer says
We’re birds of a feather! I, also, do not make quilts to gift people, as I don’t want recipients to feel obligated to use them, and I also don’t want the quilts to just sit in a closet. But if someone comes to my house and sees a quilt they adore, it’s theirs. So, I don’t need any more quilts in my house, but I love the color combinations in your quilt, especially the red, cheddar, and teal, with black accent for weight. Glad I came across your blog, and I look forward to reading future posts.
Maria K Brow says
Hello! I love this sampler quilt that you made. It feels like a vintage family heirloom but also modern at the same time with the use of the Kimberly Kight delightful strawberry fabric as a block center. It makes me smile. How can fabric do that? I don’t know but I’m glad that it happens. Magic, I guess. This quilt would be lovingly used in our home. Thank you for your generous giveaway. This quilt would remind me of the good in the world and that is something that is often times hard to see.

Your quilt would have a visibly honored place in my room where it would spend evenings covering my lap as I hand stitch while getting inspired by its colorful florals, baskets and fans – all some of my favorite motifs that I’ve not seen together in one we built before tgis sampler. Thanks for sharing and encouraging us all with your giving spirit and joy.

I love sampler quilts. It is an amazing work of art that you are generously giving away. It has a vintage feel that I personally love.

This gorgeous quilt would look so good in my house. I have a place where I hang a quilt and it would look perfect!

I LOVE this quilt!! The quilt will be proudly used in my living room. I also love your philosophy on whether to keep a quilt or give it away. I struggle with this same decision. I would treasure this quilt forever. I have 3 quilts that mean the most to me. One my Mother made for me. One that I made with my Mother and a third that was made by my Mother in law.

My gram quilted and tatted lace. She always told me when I was ready she would teach me. Silly me, I always thought there would be time. When she passed, all of her knowledge passed with her. She was a fun Gram. She taught me basic sewing on her old pedal Singer. I also learned how to embroider and crochet from her. When I saw your quilt it made me smile. Gram shared that when you make something that comes from your heart, it always is special and a “grand piece of your life”. Your sampler quilt reminds me of that, I can see you put love and joy in it. Even if I am not picked to recieve it, thank you for reminding me that there are artisans still out there that make “grand” pieces of life to share

Jolene, I would be honored to have your quilt. I love the fact that you put yourself into each one of your quilts by creating a masterpiece with the resources you have. You are guided by high expectations in creating your quilt as though it will be your own. As a fellow snuggler with blankets, I can’t imagine how wonderful it would be to snuggle with a beautiful handmade beautiful quilt that you’ve made.

You do absolutely beautiful work, who wouldn’t want to treasure your quilt. I happen to have a daughter that I would re-gift it to. She loves everything handmade especially quilts.

Oh my goodness! Your quilt is so beautiful! I have made many quilts for my children and grandchildren, so I understand how precious each quilt is. I always wished in my heart that my mother had quilted, and I had a quilt of hers to cherish as my own. Don’t misunderstand me, she did sew, and made all of our clothes and dresses, which were beautiful, but I always wished for a quilt. As soon as I found out I was expecting my first, I immediately started my first quilt, and afghan, and anything else I could make for that baby to use and cherish. She is now in her 40’s and has quite an assortment that showcases her life! She proudly uses and displays themm, as does my son. I would be honored to display, uses, and cherish your quilt if chosen.

Your blog is THE only blog I continue to read. Found you around 2011/2012 (maybe it was even 2010?!) and have truly loved every single quilt you have posted… and sometimes I stalk your online shop just to see if you’ve finished a quilt you haven’t blogged about yet! Huge admirer of your work for many years and would feel so privileged to have your quilt live in my home!!! <3 Rachel

I actually stumbled across your blog with the title, “What I do with my quilts”. I am a crocheter and thought I read your blog too see I could learn from your uses of your craft.
I’ve always admire quilts and the painstaking work involved with creating them. I tried once but sewing isn’t up my alley. Your quilts are beautiful and I’ve subscribed so I can learn more.

The beautiful comments I have been reading shows that many of us adore your style and fabric choices of all your quilts. I too make quilts and drool over every single one of yours. The quilts I am currently making are custom t-shirt quilts, those that bring in the income to pay the bills and allow me to buy more fabric, but have been following you so that I can at least enjoy the quilts you make, eye candy after a day of working with t-shirts. If I were chosen to be gifted this beautiful quilt it would be cherished and used in my home.

Wow! What a fun giveaway. It is exciting just to receive an email that you have a new blog post. I can hardly imagine receiving your quilt in the mail. Thank you for sharing content so freely with us. Let’s see, I would love to see, touch and handle your quilt in real life. To look at all the stitches, blocks, fabrics and to feel the weight and warmth of the quilt. It would be used and loved. I hand stitch my quilts, mostly straight lines. I’m toying with using either the baptist fan or orange peel motif for my daughter’s bed quilt. I know it will take longer, but I want the curved look. All to say, I’m particularly keen to experience your quilting in real life. The photos in your book and blog are wonderful, but I do always want more:) There is no particular reason you should choose me. I’d be honored if you did, but I can see there are many lovely people who would also love and cherish your quilt. Enjoy gifting it!

I myself was taught the amazing beauty of quilts from my grandmother. over her life time she made over 200 full/queen and king size quilts. As part of her legacy every one of her children and grandchildren received a handmade quilt from her. She also made others as donations to worthy causes. I myself have made quilts but unfortunately my body is losing a medical battle wish causes me not to be able to quilt anymore. This sampler quilt has many designs in it that reminds me of wonderful memories of quilting. I would love to win this and use it as a lap robe while I sit in my wheelchair. thank you for the opportunity

I just ran across this by accident or maybe just because I was supposed to. I don’t know how to explain my interest in your article catching my eye except the fact that I’m always drawn to quilts whether it be a picture of one or one you can touch. Quilts typically have a story to tell even if it’s bought in a store because even then it’s probably put together in a second or third world country with a person in charge of the pattern. I have a very small house with things in my house that has a story. I have a couple of quilts as well as other things with a past and story. The important thing about my things is when I’m gone I have four children that will carry on the stories as my things are divided among them. I know your quilt has part of you woven in the stitches so you are giving part of yourself away. It absolutely doesn’t have to be me but chose someone that can keep your story alive and going in your quilts.

I almost swooned with delight as the design scrolled up on the screen. It would be a great honor to display such a piece of art in our home!

First of all I love this quilt. The colors, the craftsmanship, the variety of blocks. I would like to wrap myself up in your warm kindness and be reminded of it every time I sit with it at the end of the day. . I feel the same way you do btw re gifting a quilt to someone that may not “love” it, because every stitch is done with enjoyment, and sacrifices. I once made a quilt for someone and the comment was “I like it, but I don’t want it because it has pink in it”.
Stacy Bolan says
Well all I can say is I’m new to quilting and I love making them for our littles. I love this quilt you are giving away the thing I have learned about giving one away is that with each quilt a part of you goes with it. I have only made baby quilts I don’t think in ready for anything bigger yet. I would take good care to preserve the beauty of the quilt and to let you know it would be in good hands. Good luck to all. Thank you

I would love this quilt SO much!!! I have been a fan and a follower of your work for many years! I am also a quilter, and you have inspired me time and time again to continue with the craft..to learn, and to grow. Your sense of color is something that has always drawn me to your quilts…they are both modern and vintage at the same time! I live in a very rural and snowy part of NNY near the Adirondacks…If I won this quilt, it would have a treasured spot near the fire and be admired all year long!

I just love that pinwheel in the lower right! I always love your colorways and come here for inspiration before I pop into my local fabric shop. Would love this for my new obsession…watching Netflix with the kids on an absurdly large, yet heavenly, L-shaped “cuddler” couch we recently inherited! =)

I think if I were to receive this quilt I would have to send it to your mom. Her comment is probably the the sweetest comment I’ve ever read!🩷

Hello Jolene –
Wow – I am amazed that you are able to give away this quilt! When you first blogged about it I was determined to find the pattern for it. Unfortunately it does not seem to exist anywhere on line as you had mentioned it was from a while back. Since then I have been inspired to try to make my own version of a sampler quilt by cobbling together similar blocks. More of a challenge but I am enjoying it. I am always awed by the colors and combinations that you put together. This quilt is no exception! As you said – there are definitely some favorite fabrics used with this beautiful sampler. You can imagine how excited I was to read about the give away on your blog. I am also savoring your new book, reading it section by section, comparing what makes each quilt unique and interesting. So much useful advice is sprinkled in there. If I were to be the recipient of the sampler quilt you are giving away words cannot describe how much I would love it and enjoy seeing it hanging in a place of honor in my home every day. Thank you for your generosity in passing on such a special work of art.

What a wonderful gift. Yes, I would love this quilt and cherish it. I too aspire to make quilts but have produced only small quilts and certainly nothing hand quilted! I just received your book and I’m in awe – love your dreamy photos and all the patterns, ideas and inspiration. If you select me your quilt will be honored in my home and very much used and loved!.

There’s nothing like being wrapped in a warm hug by a cozy beautiful quilt. I would love to be hugged by your Sampler quilt. But then everyone needs a hug so… i enjoy your free style of quilting and have made a couple of your pattens. Thanks for sharing your quilting journey.

Your quilts are gorgeous. All quilts are works of love. I have made many, given some and some some. But the ones I have I use in so many ways. They are homey wnd welcoming. Perfect to have on top of you when you’re reading or watching tv or sitting on the porch swing. They go with me camping, to a hotel and also my comfort at a hospital. I would love one of your quilts to treat as dearly as my own! ❤️😍

What can I say
I would be honoured to have such a beautiful charmed sampler quilt in my house and on my couch for the very cold days we have in winter.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this quilt, I will treasure it, if I’m so lucky to win it. Good luck to all of us. 🌻

I love sampler quilts. I can no longer hand quilt because of tingling in my hand from damage to my wrist. I would love to own such a beautiful hand quilted sampler.

How kind of you! Please do not include me in the draw for winning this quilt. I live in Belgium, I make quilts myself and don’t think it’s necessary to send a quilt across the ocean, however lovely it is. You may give an extra ballot to your mum in my name, for her to win this quilt ;-).
I’m curious to one day read your thoughts on prizing the quilts.

Hi,
I would love the honor to embrace your treasure. It’s beautiful. I see every moment of inspiration, warmth, excitement, joy, and love in every stitch and the accomplishment of completion. You are an artist.
Have a joyful day!

Much more than any other “giveaway”, this is a sharing of who you are—all wrapped up in a creation from your most able hands and heart. I often love what you write, and today was no different. Your thoughts on selling your quilts made so much sense—I appreciate you taking the time and care to share that. A lot of it rings true for me. If your quilt comes to me it will be loved.
Julie Lundquist says
When I look at your quilts I feel so affirmed and loved in my “quilting style”. Oh thank you! I have long followed your blog and love your book. Owning one of your quilts would be an amazing gift.

I love your quilts and always smile when I read about a quilt you have made. Your fabrics and designs are just wonderful. I just want to say THANK YOU for the inspiration and ideas you share with your readers. I don’t want to be in the consideration for the gift of this quilt only because I have quilts to rehome.
Sara G says
So very generous of you Jolene! I know whoever you pick to send this quilt to will be absolutely thrilled and blessed. I treasure all of the quilts I have bought from you and am grateful to be inspired by your beautiful work and art <3

it’s been my goal for the last two years to make a quilt but for some reason picking out the fabric for one seems overwhelming. this quilt is very motivating and a reminder of one of the reasons I bought the sewing machine in the first place. I would like to sew something for myself and not just something for my kids.
Dawn Wyda says
I feel like this sampler has some very unique elements. The colors are in harmony with a spring feel, but I can also feel some fall vibes. I love the addition of the border, and the plaid binding tops it off. With all that being said, the real stand-out feature is the hand quilting. My favorite quilts are hand stitched. My quilts are rotated and enjoyed. I would certainly love this quilt to death.
Claire Giesbrecht says
I’ve followed your blog for years now w rapt interest I absolutely love your style and have often longed to feel one of your quilts-to squish it:) They look so lovable and yummy! And this one’s border, stars, and the medallion in the bottom right corner caught my eye immediately! The label is one of the best too 😍

I will add my name to the many who have posted theirs. You are a very talented quilter, with your choice of colors and patterns all are so wonderful. I have quilted and have bins of fabric as many do but seem to lack the creativeness to select the perfect colors to complete the results you have. I would be honored to have my name selected and I know it would get me inspired get in those bins and create something for our grandkids .Thanks for adding me to the drawing..

That is a beautiful quilt. I have just started a sewing class at my local library and think it would be such inspirational piece/work of art. I also hardly agree quilts are so much better than fleece blankets. Thank you for spreading kindness and gifting someone a quilt that you put so much work & love into.
