And here we have version #2 of my Country Star Medallion pattern. (which will be ready possibly by tomorrow!).
It’s so different from the last one that it cracks me up. When I originally put this design together, I knew I wanted it to be possible to make without applique. And so I decided that the corner squares and any other blocks where the original had applique, could also be fun to use vintage textiles or fun prints.
This one began with these nostalgic pillow panels which I found on Ebay. There are so many of these types of panels available, and pillow panels are just the right size for the corner squares in this pattern!
These little Sun Bonnet Sue blocks from the ’80’s have a very distinctive color palette, so I tried to really lean into that. I wanted the whole thing to be cohesive. Of course in the end that means that we have a very cottage core granny chic, teal and rust quilt! I used a cream colored flannel on the back, and first of all machine quilted between all the big blocks just to anchor the whole quilt. Then I could hand quilt with chocolate brown thread within each block.
I decided to still do needle turn applique for the tall flower blocks and the corner petals. So this version is a mix of applique and featuring interesting textiles. The next version that I’ll show you next has no applique at all and is full of vintage embroidery and tablecloths.

I love it! the vibe takes me back to girlhood where there was a brown apron & placemats made by my Grandma and orange child size Tupperware pitcher and brown cups.
I love the idea of using the vintage panels in the corners! I think I have some panels to include in the plan for a future quilt. It was great meeting you last week!
cette version est très chouette aussi! quand sort le patron ?? bonne journée !
It is very beautiful. Looking forward to the version without applique.
Yes, I love your quilts. They look so cosy and lovely. I hope I don’t lose sight of you, but my email address is changing and I don’t know how to do that for you. I have resubscribed with the new email

This one is very pretty. I love the sunbonnet Sue design. But, I do like the first one better. I’m anxious to see the quilt without appliqué.
Is there a pattern I can purchase for a queen size quilt.
I wanted to make my grand daughter a quilt and she has been looking for one she liked for quite awhile. She fell in love with is one.
