Here is a fun rainbow of circles. I used a mix of aqua fabrics for the backgrounds. I really love everything about this one, it’s just so fun. I knew I wanted to use red yarn ties because I’ve seen vintage quilts finished this way and I just love the unusual pop of color. I feel like red or black or white ties could look neat on any quilt, even if they don’t match. They just add that slightly edgy element. Well I have to admit that there are also a few bright pink ties because I ran out of red. But it goes without saying that it’s fine for a playful quilt like this.

Love an Ohio Star quilt, and this one is full of a mix of vintage and new cottons. Love this color scheme as well. Colourful but muted at the same time!

These four patches were originally for another project and had been stuffed in the bottom drawer. I pulled them out and arranged them with solid squares between, and then in rows of similar colors. Originally I had them all next to each other and they just looked too busy and chaotic. Sometimes you need to space them out and add some cream or muslin colored solids. In this case I love the finished quilt, it’s so simple but still has color and movement.

This last one was made from a pattern in my first quilt book, A Year of Quilts. I had made the blocks at some point and then stuffed them in the drawer as well. So happy I just took the time to sew them together as they made a lovely summery quilt. I find the colors in this one interesting as they are definitely all a crisper cooler white base tone. I generally make quilts with a creamier base color.
Although I feel like you can make quilts where you mix many colors, I do find it tricky to mix pure white based colors with warmer ones. I tend to separate them out. I find it fascinating that most people gravitate somewhat to either one or the other. A crisp clean and bright look, or a more muted warm toned look.
Anyways, all four of these are now available in my Etsy shop. Click here for my shop link.
