I was thinking fondly of the Bramble Blooms Challenge that I did a year or two ago. The added feeling that once again my sewing room is just bursting with too much fabric, made me decide to do some version of this challenge again. So I began by going through all my quilting fabrics and pulling out anything that was either less than my favorite or hadn’t been used for a long time.
Here are the fabrics I ended up with. I want to clarify that I still like these fabrics. I don’t actually have much fabric any more that I don’t like at all. These are just less favorite than the others that managed to remain on the shelves. After ending up with this large stack, I then divided them further into somewhat color coordinated groupings.
Here I am working on my first one. I loved the center and the first border around it, but went so awry on the outside vines that I didn’t take a picture but stuffed it in the charity box. Feeling abit discouraged by my lacklustre free hand applique, ,I decided to make the next bundle with a more fool proof method. I’ve wanted to make a quilt with FilmintheFridge’s Checkered Garden Tutorial, so that’s what I did with the next quilt.
I had piled all the warm browns, pinks and oranges together, and they worked out quite well for this pattern. I added in just a few muted greens and navy blues. This was a fun and simple pattern to make.
Next, I decided to make another quilt with the Isabelle pattern by Kitchen Table Quilting. I have made this pattern one other time and remembered that it nicely used up some large chunks of unloved yardage.
It’s always a fun challenge to decide which fabrics should go together in each block, so I’d say this is a very fun quilt block to make! This quilt is a much tighter and more coordinated color scheme than what I usually use, but I just really wanted to use up these chunks of fabric!
After this, I looked at the leftover fabrics piled up on my table and figured I could pull off another Scrappy Rows Quilts, which I’ve always wanted to make another of. My first one is featured in my book, Scrap Quilt Diary.
This is such a fun quilt to make! You don’t have to make too many blocks of any one kind. Each square ends up at 3″ so you could customize and mix and match your own design.

Just remember that all squares should end up at 3″, so any HSTs should be cut at 3 3/8″ to start with!
These three quilts are all twin or large throw size quilts so I’ve made a nice little dent in the fabric piles. As you can see, I started out with the idea of doing another Bramble Bloom series but got way laid by other ideas. This is quite normal for me, I never know what will end up being made next!
